Hearing Richard Burns say "I'm only 30." and signing a 5 year contract, is so sad.

It is. However the Peugeot contract was 2 years. He was coming back to Subaru for 2004, he even had the team clothing kit sent to him, but as we all know that didnt happen and they filled his seat with Mikko Hirvonen :(

It’s tragic that Burns never got to see how his 5 year plan unfolded. Taken far too soon. McRae had already started to lose interest in the WRC by about 2004 and probably wouldn’t have made a full comeback even if he hadn’t died. But Burns had more to show and offer. Both our top line WRC drivers taken in less than two years. Such a wicked loss. 😞

He won because Peugeot would get maximum manufacturer points even if Purras' phony ass was first. If it wasn't for that Panizzi would have smoked him.

@Ionouts : Someone else here that by saying "who won" is such a spoiler. I don't think it should be the case -- just go watch the entire video and see HOW Puras did it!!! Thank you, WRC!!! Just like he could have lost the 1998 championship when the celica had a turbo go out or was it 1997. But that's life, could of,would,of should of, at the end of the day you need to put yourself in those situations

Puras was the hardes't rally fighter, so many problems in his sport live, teams like Citroën hurt them after all the work of Puras. Hearth and historic victory for he and all Cantabrian pepople! PURAS Nº1

Odd time for rallying. Cars were nether spectacular or fast, but they were generally reliable but super complex. Great time for the super 1600's though. Those little Punto's looked cheeky

For me it was one of WRC golden era aside from Group B. Late 90's and early 2000's had pretty good title fights, a lot of manufacturers entries, and both iconic cars & drivers

It was on the Acropolis Rally Burns who was only running a half season schedule that season was running 3rd behind the 2 Ford's of Kankunnen and Sainz. But he deliberately took time penalties after the final service area which allowed Makinen to take 3rd and the extra point that came with it proved crucial in the run in

Still in JWRC, he only ran San Remo in WRC competition that year.

He could afford to drive WRC in San Remo since no one could pass him in the JWRC standings in that single rally even if he was absent, he had to go back to maintain his championship lead.

Always hurts to see Purras, A man whom everyone knows cheated earlier that year in Catalunya, win a rally. Once a cheater, always a cheater.
