Wrecked 2010 Mercedes E550. What's it gonna take to get it running?

A bit different for a midweek! You all have asked for some more average day content so this video shows our pre-inventory process on a vehicle we purchased for parts.
For parts go to www.Importapart.com or email us at Importapartsales@gmail.com.
This 2010 Mercedes E550 was bought from a tow lot, after it was wrecked in the front. Generally speaking, we get everything that comes in to run so we know it not only has good compression/leakdown, but makes good oil pressure and has no oiling related problems like engine knocks, lifter noise, etc. For most cars, the process is even simpler than this. Just put it on a jump box and turn the key but this E550 was a little more work.
Getting these cars to run can often involve some reconstruction, temporary fixes and even some parts sourcing. It doesn't always work out in our favor either, but it always lets us know everything there is to know about an engine.
I hope you enjoyed this quick and different style of video. As always, I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism. Catch you on the next one!
-Eric

As an automotive technician myself, it’s great to see that there are people out there that actually know how to do proper diagnostic and troubleshooting! I talk to so many “techs” that aren’t qualified to change the batteries in a flashlight

For those with less experience: With Mercedes, expect codes anytime your battery is weak or has been dead. Always clear codes for a couple days as needed and see how fast they come back. If they're persistent, even after driving a couple days with a good battery, then start diagnosis. Don't just throw parts at it. Remember lean or rich codes don't necessarily mean the O2 sensors are at fault. They could just be telling the truth and the problem is upstream (the engine), either vacuum leaks or clogged air filter. Look for loose vacuum or electrical connections and check the easy stuff first! You can get a lean code just from the oil dipstick tube sticking up and out (due to excessive PCV system pressure - which is it's own problem). Any warnings regarding lane assist or auto wipers can be just the windshield sensor being dirty. Lastly, ESP, BAS, ABS and any brake related faults can be a faulty brake pedal switch.

Just wanted to say thanks man. I appreciate when someone has decent diagnosis knowledge. Most techs are lazy and cant follow a wiring diagram and its sad. I will say that in the dealership world (especially under warranty time) most techs cant go this far into diag as it does not pay. You gotta cut it off at some point and take an educated guess (especially when the owner messed around with it or you are dealing with accident damage) because you gotta pay your rent or mortgage right? I still like to see when someone can find the actual issue if you have the time. I would like to see more of these videos. They will 100% help out techs that still need some training on how to diagnose and read wiring diagrams. You are the man bro, keep it up!
