7 years and this is still the most perfect Harry Potter based fan fiction

This is a prime example that a Harry potter-like TV series could work. Same universe just a different set of characters in a different location.

I am amazed by the fact this was made in 2013, because the visual effects are really good even in 2018!

My name is Tanner and I'm the blonde guy in this video. Against my better judgement, I want to respond to the people who are saying the acting or script were overdramatic, or that Wren should've found "better" actors. To these people I say; you're absolutely right. I am not the best actor in the world, let alone on youtube. I take classes and I work at it, sometimes I get it right on the first take, sometimes it takes a couple tries. 'Real' actors on tv shows and movies often do many takes to get it right, Daniel Radcliffe himself has been quoted as saying he did 30 takes of 1 scene for Harry Potter. 30 takes for 1 scene. That's more than I did for this whole short film, and that's what he did for 1 scene. A typical feature film may shoot about 5 or 6 pages a day, and we shot 18 pages in 2 days. The script may seem melodramatic, but it is representative of one person's artistic vision as they are trying to begin their career, not the work of an entire team of veteran writers who are writing scenes based on pre-existing material that we all know is already of the highest quality. This is new and different and made for free! Of course the vfx are amazing, wren is talented and he took his time to get them right, 8 months! We had 3 days with the script. 3 days, and then we shot 18 pages in 2 days. I'm well aware that as the views rise, so will the number of people that feel like they know enough to critique, and that's just the way the internet works. Much like the "Charlie bit me" reference in the second episode of SYNC, we all get it, and calling it to attention again and again is inevitable, but maybe before you go about being a keyboard film professor, maybe you can think of something new and different to add as well. I watched this and I was absolutely blown away even in 2020 and I highly recommend you add more onto the story like another episode or part and people would definently watch it.

This needs to be like a Netflix series or something. I want way more of this.

I love thet you paid attention to the lore. I thought this was gonna be like Expelliarmus can deflect Avada Kedavra, but it can’t so I really liked that he didn’t block it with magic, but with a solid object.

Here because I saw just a second or two of this on the latest VFX Artists react, and I'm SO GLAD I DID! Dude! This is AMAZING, and I'm desperately hoping there's more! I was utterly sucked in and I want to know more about everything...OMEN, The Fire of Olympus, all of it! Please, please say there's more, or that there's a fanfic I can read, or SOMETHING! This was INCREDIBLE!!!

The VFX were superb, save for the Legilimens (that's the only one I have any issue with). The Apparition smoke, the duels, the spells...really top notch! D: The orb makes me think that you're an Assassin's Creed fan though, ha ha.

I had to come back and give this another review now that I've just learned you did this with 0 funding and by collaborating with other like minded individuals. I actually thought this was a finished project and a teaser pilot heading for the TV's. I am completely amazed at what you guys have done and whilst watching this mini film a fire has sparked in me igniting a new hope that more material from "Harry Potter" just may surface. I think I speak for not only myself but all Harry Potter fans when I say "We are dying for something, anything that puts us back in the wizarding world." and man oh man did this hit the spot. The choreography was ok but I think there could have been better movements that suggested "Wizardry" but all in all I think for what you had to work with, it was great. Never forget Harry Potter is about Darkness and Light. therefor spells and body language from either side should hold a certain type of imagery and embody those characteristics (Like when Voldemort uses fire and Dumbledore uses water). The score and music was phenomenal. The acting was pretty shotty, the only character that actually had any type of look and feel for the wizarding world is the blonde and she had the least dialogue but again I understand resources were limited. A very important thing to remember is although the muggle world is modern day, the wizarding world is still very 16 to 1800ish, not completely but ideas, culture, costuming and witchcraftyness really echo that time frame. Also, this isn't a must but I really, really believe that for anything to survive a "Harry Potter" spin off, there must be a British accent as well as culture or at least something foreign.I definitely think it would be a dreadful idea to center your cast around American culture and dialect, unless your main characters were British but for some reason in America. On top of that you would need to cast exceptional American actors. that are very unique. From what I gather the spin off is going to be about evil still existing even after Voldemort.If that's the case I would definitely choose your names and characters wisely or else it will come off as "Very Sci-Fi". As for script and writing, I think you have to be a true Harry Potter fan to even come close to know what the world should be like 15 years after Voldemort's demise, so I would definitely tread very carefully in this area. Even thought it's not Rowling's work, that's what fans are going to compare it to, and she is a fictional genius that many have compared to Tolkien and Lewis. It's essential that any type of spin off be produced as "Rowlingish" as possible. Lastly and my favorite was the special effects and choreography. The effects were brilliantly done. Absolutely magnificent for a 0 budget! Congrats to that guy. The choreography in some spots though stale, in others , was spot on! All in all I think this project is amazing and I hope I see it gain attention and move forward!!! Follow me on twitter guys! Atticusknows1

This is pretty awesome. Makes one wonder why there was never an actual attempt to get the ball rolling on a series focused on the Aurors. but then some exec at one of the big broadcasters would have messed it up.

This is still my favorite Harry Potter fan film and I have watch this so many times and I never get tired of watching it. It is hands-down the best film ever made and honestly I would absolutely love to see a sequel.

The effects are brilliant. The short was put together beautifully. People comment on the acting, but it is better than what you can find on Disney and on teen dramas. Good job to everyone involved!

Considering this a fan based short film, with non-actors, a non-professional screen writer and director, it was * awesome*. Soundlyawke was the most natural actor because he does characters on his channel and it shows-bravo. The fx was astounding! All done by one person?! Amazing! All of you are chasing your dreams and hope you all catch them!

I think Harry Potter fans are being too critical of this short film. They have no budget for a first film. The effects were great for no budget. The acting was by essentially volunteers. I say well done for a first go. I read some comments talking about the "wand training", "acting", and "camera shots". Reminder: NO BUDGET! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. It kep my interest all the way through.

i remember watching this when i was 8 or 10. i'm about to graduate high school, and even though i may not edit fx as much as i used to, you guys were one of the first to inspire me to make awesome short films. thanks for the hard work u put in to making my childhood great.

Okay so somehow I haven't seen this go viral on Google+ yet, how is that even possible? These guys made this fanfic happening in the Potterverse _across the Atlantic_ with virtually no budget, but lots of talent. I'm a Harry Potter fan and I thought this was pretty well made and hope he can do more of the same in the future.

Wren, this was awesome but you know that if you get picked up by a major studio there will be a new director, new cast etc. If you develop a web series using Indiegogo you can keep your own control and your own scripts actors. 100,000 backers paying $10 and you have a million dollar budget. RJ is an excellent writer and actor as are most of the actors in this film.
