How about HHH'S knees doing pedigrees on a nightly basis for decades? At least Undertaker had the option giving his character and size had believability to beat someone solely with the chokeslam. He didn't have to truly tombstone every opponent to finish them. Kayfabe wise it only made sense to do it with foes bigger than him like Khali, Gonzalez, Show, Mark Henry.

Wrestlamia actually explained how that’s taken in a previous video. Essentially Yokozuna would fall in such a way that he was essentially squatting when he landed with barely any of his weight actually landing on them.

Indeed, and that was Randy starting a new push. That's how you demonstrate talent, by making your opponent look like they killed you, especially their finisher. A professional opponent will often pay it back by helping you look good, unless it's understood it's a squash. Brock Lesnar is well known for keeping his image looking strong, but also selling his opponents moves like they are big money, and he can usually build ok talent into mega stars. Dolph Ziggler and Heath Slater are two other fairly recentish wrestlers who have a knack for doing the same, and it's always great to see the next generation understand the importance of it too. The Great Khali had a unique sell style that went under appreciated at first, but if you watch his matches back, you develop an appreciation for it. He will start out on the Hulk Hogan Hulked up level of no sell, but as you deliver signatures or other impactful moves, he'll loosen this up. This gives the wrestler he's fighting a look of tenacity and toughness, weathering a literal juggernaut, and they rarely have him take a fall directly to preserve this image, unless they really want to mega hype the win. Many viewers tune out unless the start of the match is instantly attention grabbing, but Khali did a good job working the opposite direction.

U have to keep in mind these moves they are performing are real cause they can injure or even kill u. Wwe is scripted but the moves are real and theirs a reason y moves get banned and wrestlers stop doing certain moves. This is one of those reasons. Growing up we used to do body slams. But like kids and teens would do. Basically unsafe. We did do piledrivers and DDT's and figure four leg locks. But this was the 80's. No one knew how the moves were actually done. Heck we didn't even know it was pre-planned

yeah while taker takes basically all the impact on his knees, if they were just relying on his grip there's a chance that their weight will cause them to slip down and still smack their head on the mat, so them holding on helps keep them from slipping, even then it's a risky move that's why Taker's been the only one that been allowed to do piledriver type moves in WWE for years

If they don't do that Undertaker would be breaking necks every time he does it.

@@bruceaskew2107 I've talked to a couple of indy wrestlers, and the Figure 4 counter (turning over) doesn't actually do anything to the attacker. Just a kayfabe way to force the opponent to let go. One said the move doesn't even actually hurt much. The Sharpshooter/Scorpion Deathlock on the other hand......

Lashley does it better than Masters ever did, though. Sometimes it looked like someone could escape the Master Lock by raising their arms straight and falling down (ie, like a Jawbreaker fall without the Jawbreaker). Lashley's version looks more (pardon the pun) locked in.

@@doootheytho9821 When he came to WWE it was safer and easier to put on the bigger opponents. In WCW, he was mostly working as a cruiserweight so most opponents were actually his size. And I totally agree; the Liontamer version was actually much cooler AND it hurts way more in real life.

Finn puts basically zero pressure into the stomp part of the move. Otherwise the person taking it would die, or be heavily injured. The person taking it also crosses their arms. Your forearm is a very strong part of your arm that can take a lot of weight.

As a french speaker I will always find it funny how English speakers pronounce the Coup De Grâce. The "ce" in "grace" aren't silent. You have to pronounce it.

He crunches his body like car shocks to avoid being stiff when he lands. His legs/knees bucking(or the perception of it) as he makes impact removes a lot of the forces transferred. (essentially, he's mastered being completely limp to transfer as little potential energy as possible, while also doing a REALLY good job _looking_ like he's rock solid) Him also being essentially cruiser weight also helps. Yes, it would suck every time. But even without flopping to his back immediately, there are other things he's doing to maintain the -safety- non-death of his opponent.

He doesn't need to go in for a sleeper hold or choke position, just doing a decent crossface makes the move look so much better. That's what Regal did all the time with his cross-legged version of the STF.

By landing in a squatting position the distance for his weight to actually fall is less than a foot/30 cm. The one that looked like it actually hurt was because he landed with more weight towards his heels, which caused his feel to slip from under him and literally fall on the guy.
