FightStrategistMMA What y'all are calling the twister, is in reality a "Wrestlers Guillotine" and has been in the wrestlers repertoire for quite sometime, I've seen wrestling instructionals from the 70s teaching it as if it were a standard move nothing special at all just another pinning combination.
@alleycatufc
@alleycatufc 10 жыл бұрын
JudoMateo you are 100% correct. All Eddie Bravo does in his breakdown of the twister is show how to put more pressure on the neck.
@JudoMateo
@JudoMateo 10 жыл бұрын
alleycatufc I seriously doubt that no other wrestler hadn't figured out ways to increase pressure on the neck also. Pressure on the neck is a pinning fundamental!
@alleycatufc
@alleycatufc 10 жыл бұрын
JudoMateo Actually if you just want to pin your opponent then it is better to get lower on the head. If you wanna make them submit then you gable grip around the temple. I have never seen a wrestler until recent figure 4 the head for pressure. That's Jiu Jitsu. The more pressure you apply to the top of the head, the more it lifts your opponent's back off the mat, defeating the purpose of pinning them . The best way to pin your opponent is a classic wrestlers guillotine. I've wrestled my whole life, but there is no denying that Eddie Bravo has made this a more effective move via the Swedish twister.

Since this sport is new to me, this is the first video I've come across where a technique is taught fundamentally different. It's about the whizzer. Kolat makes it more of an arm-strength technique, and Rob Knoll makes it more of a hip-driven movement. Maybe because a "whizzer pull-up" is different than a "whizzer"? Any thoughts on the differences or preferences from any wrestlers out there? Rob Knoll whizzer: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n9SIipyJqcu2Zqc.html

Cary- What is your opinion on cross over wrestling into mma? what should someone who is s striker by nature be trying to pick up from wrestling. I want to do dirty boxing and striking on the inside with elbows knees etc. How scared does strikes make a wrestler? Thanks
@KOLATCOM
@KOLATCOM 10 жыл бұрын
If you are trying to put wrestling into your mma game then you want to work on takedowns. As for how scared someone becomes from being struck that depends on the person. If you are going into mma then you should probably get yourself accustomed to being punched or kicked and have the ability to respond to it. Good luck!
@alleycatufc
@alleycatufc 10 жыл бұрын
You need to learn takedown defense. Also how to wall walk up the cage via Chuck Liddell. Be careful when you kick because you can be taken down by a high-level wrestler. The standing switch or Kimora will help you get out of a take down attempt. Learn to keep the distance in your striking world and also learn basic wrestling takedowns to score points. When your opponent can be struck or taken down you will then confuse and keep them guessing. Best of luck in your journey

Any way to get out of a fire mans carry or over the shoulder carry? Just messing around with friends and I have him pinned but I get up and he throws me over the shoulder since I'm a light guy, couldn't find anything about getting out of a fire mans carry or over the shoulder
@KOLATCOM
@KOLATCOM 8 жыл бұрын
+xAH Slim The counter to a fireman's carry is to hip into your opponent and shrug your shoulder to slip your elbow out of his grip. When you hip in be careful not to put your weight on his shoulder and once the fireman's has been stopped be ready to counter your opponent if tries to change off to a high crotch or a double leg.

Which is why this won't be the only whizzer/overhook attack in your arsenal. If your opponent stays tight, this opens up a three-quarter nelson or Kimura sweep instead. Every counter can be countered in turn.

Zack Mitchell You're right it won't work all the time but its a good move to know just in case the situation presents itself. Logan Steiber hit this move in the finals of this years NCAA National tournament. The only difference was that the other guy had the whizzer and had the underhook but he had more pressure down one the other guys shoulder and hit this same move.
