Since starting these Wrestling Bios videos, one of the most requested wrestlers has been Raven. Raven is a well travelled superstar, having gone to and from WWE and WCW twice, but its definitely his brilliant work in ECW that made Raven stand out as an intriguing and multi-layered superstar.
Raven was, and still is, a very smart man. His character within ECW was a product of the times, and even as a heel, the Raven character was very popular among fans. From ECW, Raven was able to get a big money contract in Ted Turner's WCW, and afterwards Raven was able to go back to the WWF after previously leaving the company before his rise to stardom.
So in this first of a 3 part series, we look at the career of Raven. Part one here will look at Raven's journey to ECW along with his time in the land of extreme.

Vince couldn't utilize any wrestlers that weren't wwf guys. He dropped the ball with all of the big wcw guys and ESPECIALLY ecw . Raven was hugely over in wcw

Raven had such a great series of interviews with RF video awhile back. Not just the shoot, but the "star power" & ring psychology videos. Love that story about talking to Paul on the phone, & immediately forgetting when he was supposed to start. So he just showed up early, & ended up making a good impression with the cover story that he just wanted to introduce himself & get a feel for the locker room. 😆

I had the entire series of Raven / RF Video shoots, I picked them up in a local Pawn shop for like 10 bucks total like 10 years ago. Watched them and ended up selling them on Ebay afterwards. Made a nice profit on them, close to $100 bucks.. but I kick myself in the ass for not holding onto them. Would love to still own them.

I like how Kurt Angle left ECW because of the crucifix angle, but feuded with the Undertaker when the WWE did their version 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️

Well technically he never left because he never signed the contract he was going to sign the contract with Haman to be a part of ECW until he seen that and that's when he decided not to sign with them

Kurt seemed really hypocritical with this. Kurt called it blasphemy (by definition it's not; blasphemy means to makes light of religion while this angle uses religious symbolism to tell a story of martyrdom and Raven attempting to make Sandman a martyr to society like Raven) and signs with WWF who is actually committing blasphemy by turning the cross into a satanic symbol (I know they never explicitly said Taker was working with the devil but it is implied by the higher power concept and the cult like actions of the ministry of darkness) thus taking away it's reverence, but it's okay cause it is actually the undertaker's symbol and has a little x at the bottom so it is nothing like a cross.

I remember Raven saying Kidman hated his flock gimmick...and it was sooo sweet (the 7yr itch 👌). Raven was one of my favorites in WCW

He was never signed to ECW. He showed up to a show to get convinced by Heyman, but then the crucifixion happened and Angle didn't want to join. He ended up in WWE instead.

I actually thought, when Raven went back to WCW, that he was going to join with DDP, Scott Hall, Curt Hennig and Kevin Nash with Kimberly Page and Madusa. The Diamond Exchange re-established. It was understandable it didn't happen at the time with the NWO being hot at the time, still it could have happened afterwards. It was a missed opportunity.

weird suggestion, but david arquette would be an interesting journey to follow starting at the top(kind of) because wcw, then his struggles and eventual return to the ring. its kind of inspiring. you may have allready covered this in detail im not sure though.

The Raven/Dreamer & Raven/Sandman feuds were incredible. The writing was great, the story line acting was the best thing in the business at that time and Sandman stole the show when his son said what we he said. ECW was on Friday or Saturday night at around 2am back in the 90s, I never missed an episode. One of the malls used to have an RFVideo stand that had 3 hour best of VHS tapes, I think the hardcore tv tapes and a few others. Went at least once a month to pick things up, until it disappeared. Raven is STILL one of my all time favorite characters.

I had no idea raven was in ECW for so long. Thought he was there for like 6 months & then came to WCW. Which was my first exposure to the raven character... Although I do remember asking my pops, "is that that annoying dude (Johnny polo) that used to be on wwf tapes we rented?"
