the whole beginning. is me. literally me. mostly because i wrote the first draft ish thing when i was 13. i am now older than that and definitely a better writer. i wrote it way too fast and without any planning. since then, i’ve basically scrapped the entire plot lmao. i have been so scared of starting the new first draft but it’s my goal that by the end of this year i have the first draft. it’s going to be bad. it’s going to be awful. but whatever. my first quarter is finishing my planning and then the rest of the year is writing! hopefully i can do that, and i wish you all the luck on your book :) sorry for the rant lol

I’m honestly sensing that the best way for you to tackle this idea is by pantsing and then “reverse outline.” Sometimes the best way to figure a story out is to just DO it and then in the second draft you’ll turn the idea into an actual, workable novel.

This is so relatable starting something just to hate it 🥲 the best advice I’ve ever heard on this is from Dan Brown. He said something to the effect of “writing a book always gets tedious so it’s easy to fall out of love. The thing that can keep you engaged is setting it in a world you’re already obsessed with. That will keep you coming back.” That advice got me to change my novel from a YA Adventure to an espionage novel. Big difference for sure, but I still love it and I’ve worked on it for multiple years now. Best of luck!!

I used to hate my stories and I'm slowly being OK with it.

ive never seen a writing vlog before this one but there needs to be more because this is giving me life (or maybe there shouldnt be more because binging them would be one more way to procrastinate writing)

The first few words is literally what I said about a book called the clue and I realized how bad it is when I was at over 7 thousand words its literally about 10 people stuck in a room and at 15 thousand words Luna was supposed to be killing people but in the mean time before that the only thing that was happening was "this is so boring I will never get my manicure for my nails"

I appreciate this vlog so much. I always got so mad at myself when I would organically realize something that would change everything and render all my previous chapters useless. It’s comforting to know that it’s all part of the creative process

omg this is so real especially as im coming up on FOUR YEARS since i came up with my idea and TWO years trying to finish a complete draft that i havent scrapped

I don't know if any one else here in the comments feels this way, but when I start a new project I usually don't write that fast whilst I'm figuring out who my characters are, what the tone of the story is, voice all that good stuff, but once i start to figure that stuff out it sort of snowballs and i pick up momentum. at least until i come to a part where it occurs to me to do something devastating to my characters, and then i slow down because its hard to write those parts. some times I figure out that I'm going to do something too far out then it can make writing up to that point such a slog, and if its something like another character betrays them then writing that character as not being a piece of detritus becomes a challenge. Point is keep it up, all progress is good, even when you don't like what you've written, because not liking it helps you think through how to get to something thats actually good, not that I'm saying I've written anything good yet, just hoping.

This video inspired me to do the same and document my writing process and journey. I wanna work on it so much but get overwhelmed with the edits that I want to make😩 I'm happy for you that even if you didn't hit 10k, you still made some progress on your novel! 🥳🤗

I'm no writer, so from a reader's perspective, I think having a word goal on a time limit would be determental to the story. If I did that, I would probably write as many unnesecary added words as I could think of. maybe just having a time goal, like writing for two hours a day or so would be more doable.

The real writing goals were the friends we made along the way.

im writing a book about a magic lake and some friends who go to it in the middle of the night. its also a horror story and my favorite death so far (the only one ive thought of) Is where Aster, nickname asteroid, gets stabbed by spikes. idk where they come from but whatever!! I have been so stressed lately. I've taken on the task of writing a story for my senior project for school. It's a story that's I made a LONG time ago when I was like 12/13. Even though (let's be honest) the writing was shit, I know that I had a good foundation for a story and I feel so connected to the characters. Still, I have only around 4,000 words, AND I have such horrible writers block right now. I just feel so discouraged. The worst part is that it's due in about a month and I have no idea what I'm going to do.
