I've watched this several times (and also a few other videos on the same topic) and I've done everything you mention. When I move the End cursor the text animated correctly. But when I go to play the animation through the timeline it doesn't work... nothing happens. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Ah, based on one the comments below I realized I needed to have the type be created in AE, not a placed vector of the type.
