Sing! Write! Score! The full expression of your musicianship and experience shines right through here! "When we place our trust in the Lord" feels both accessible and classic! Great work! Great piece!

Excellent discussion of the process behind composing a hymn. Many considerations are covered here. As an organist, I have a vested interested in well written hymns and was happy to follow Scott's journey. Scott composes one in an hour! Then he shares his processes to compose a singable hymn, from the text choice to the organ accompaniment, many a consideration. Bravo!

So helpful. This is the process I go through when writing/composing, but I wasn't consciously thinking of each step.

It's always interesting to me how most hymns are written with seemingly 4 or more melodies going at once and creating harmony, rather than a chord progression and a melody on top.
