In “On Writing,” Stephen King says you should set a goal of at least 2000 words per day. That’s about 8 double-spaced pages. When you know what you want to write, 2000 per day is an easy goal. When you’re stuck, trying to connect two scenes, you find 2000 to be like climbing a mountain. In those times, I’ve found it best to move on and write another scene. The connecting parts will come to you in their own time. At least they do for me.

i like the freedom of just being a writer, not an author. no pressure, no deadlines, no editors ripping your piece to shreds, and the most important freedom-not having a public that expects something from you. due to publishing success, more great writers have been republishing the same works for decades.

I'm very slow writer too, I'm extremely undisciplined, unfortunately, but I'll take this advice. 4 hours a day.

Just wrote my 1st epic fantasy 1st draft in 1yr and 2 months while working full time and suffering a 3 week burnout. I started at 4 hrs a day then reduced to 1 hr a day after burnout.

Here's the thing, your first draft is going to suck. But thats why you do multiple drafts. You might figure it out in second draft or it might take more than that. Just keep writing, your story will tell you what it needs to live. 2pages minimum a day everyday, thats all you need to get started. Good luck, hope to read your story someday.

I feel blessed to pursue my dreams as a writer. At 21, I was laid off from my job and I notice how many jobs these days pays but they are not reliable. I dedicated my blood, sweat, and tears in pouring my words into my first draft. I saw this as an opportunity to write my book. I just have to. I wanted to create a name for myself in this world. I still continue to push forward because I see this vision. Something worth my time.

2 pages a day, minimum Even if you don't feel like writing, just write the two pages. You might have something, you might not. Then one day, 2pages isn't enough, and you want, no you NEED to write more than 2 because on that day, thats when you've found your voice

This advice to write for 2,3,10 hours a day doesn’t work unless you already have your story figured out. I don’t write 4hours a day, but I draw maps, design character arcs, plot twists, write histories, lore, family trees, magic systems, and other things pretty much all of my waking hours. I don’t know if this makes sense but I “work on my book” instead of “writing my book” - when I’m done working on my book then I’ll sit down for 4 hours a day to write it 😅

I’ve always enjoyed being creative, however I would say that writing was always my weakness. Just the last few years, I went back to college and the degree that I’m pursuing will require a long written paper. I had to drop most of my classes besides one due to unfortunate events, but I decided to prepare myself for the next semester to writing extensive work, so I thought. “Why not write a short story?” Writing a short story always felt silly to me, but I was really motivated so I sat down on my desk and pondered what to write about. I must have sat on my desk for about 2 mins when I realized that I had an idea about a story I had thought about a long time ago. So I said, might as well work on this, well it seems to be going great because it’s been two weeks in and I have about 7500 words in, this has been by far the MOST I have ever written even in all my english classes. It was a very ambitious goal for me since I struggled with writing, however I’m really enjoying my work and even the process itself. It seems that I like to mostly write on my off days, my ideas seem more fluid that way. I’m really impressed with myself because I never knew that I had it in me. 😂 Anyway, great video! Unrelated question. I love outlining and worldbuilding, but I find the actual writing difficult. I think I enjoy it but it’s also very hard for me. I’m a perfectionist who agonising over every sentence & I’m not even a good writer so I know every sentence doesn’t even turn out well. I also struggle overwriting everything. I find it hard to summarise and turn every little moment of the character’s actions into a page of wasted filler. I’m not very visual and always struggle to come up with descriptions for scenes & characters. But I love stories, character arcs, & dialogue. I’ve thought about maybe trying a different medium rather than novels. Maybe screenplays but I do want to write novels. Any advice?

I used to think maintaining a punishing schedule was going to pay off, almost like a mathematical certainty. It didn’t. In fact it ruined writing for me because it wasn’t fun anymore. I NEVER wanted to be a writer, however I found out that I do have a bit of a skill in creative writing. I have changed so much as a man that I don’t have the same interests as when I was younger so just this week I decided to give writing a chance, just for fun. I haven’t written very much, however I have about 4k words in and about nearly 6 pages full of material and I’m barely scratching the surface of my story and it hasn’t been a whole week since I started. I’m happy because I’ve never done this before, not even in college english class. The most I’ve written so far was for English and it was 10 double spaced pages and I found that extremely difficult! If my calculations are correct I should have nearly 12 pages--if broken down to double spaced. I’m still new to the writing process, but what I love doing is being creative, creating something that I ENJOY MYSELF, if people connect with it then even better, however I get to decide what happens to the story, to the characters, etc. I love the total aspect of freedom I have, I envision my world as I write. I don’t set myself any set daily goal, I mostly go by emotion, if I feel energetic then I write, if I feel tired I take the day off. I noticed that when I’m tired from work, I don’t come up with material that I’m happy with and tend to make a lot more mistakes. When I feel rested and bored is when I come up with some really interesting ideas for my writing. I personally don’t think anything is going to materialize from my writing, but who truly knows, perhaps in the future people can enjoy reading it once I’m done with it. To me it’s more about quality than quantity, although I caught myself going back a few times and trying to edit, which felt like that was holding me back, so instead I’m just writing and writing then after a good amount of work I might skim to see what I might edit later.

Started writing at age 12. They've all been horror based. Started out with Resident Evil and Silent Hill books, then I dabbled in Texas Chainsaw and Saw, and then Star Wars horror and so many books but I'm writing an Alien novel, a werewolf vs vampire vs human society saga where the vampires enslave a town because the vampires, they have been living in an upside down alternative dimension but if you go into the towns haunted woods, then you fall upside down and land in the alternate dimension; the werewolves are captured then enslaved and forced to do their towns biddings, serving the Over Lord vampire until they die. Meanwhile there's six plots in the book. Plot one: Kid goes to this teen party. His brother finds a werewolf and tries to save him. Not because he loves him but because he can't live with himself if his mother punished him for it forever. So he has dark thoughts and tries to stay alive from the pursuing wrrewolf, but dies. Before this, plot two, the town is haunted, thus above, and they have a tragic accident where a grey SUV swivels off a road, crashes upside down into a road barrier and shatters down to the bottom road, crashes through Moore barrierbarriers and finally sinks into the river below, then exploding for no god damn reason other than it can. Town is described later in sections. And then there's this guy who hates the president, goes to the diner and expects the asshole of a president to talk dirty to him in public, like messing with his wife. All this connects to the plotline where the father of the first two boys talks about werewolves and lycans, and a kids like "u don't care about your dead son and that things still out there! Get your fucking face in the car and we're going to go kill the damn thing!" The father gets in a row and later the kid drives them to find the missing kid, the alive one. They get thrown off course, find a broken sign, and they get thrown off course again, find the werewolf, shoot it, and is rescurescued by the man who hates the president. They get into more dark shit and they of course go on a "train ride" as Bessie the car gets thrown off the road and onto a train track. It breaks down and psychologicaly it moves toward the forest as the werewolves dinner. They escape the car after convincing the owner the car is gonna get ransacked by the time they sit around and do nothing to his precious car. Another storyline is that the vampires are nice, they have enslaved three werewolves, you get to know their names and get to know them. I show you their nature and how beautiful the city is, introduce a character in never gonna talk about after the first book, and then there's the next storyline. The kid whose alive, George, he goes to the woods, finds the Vampire queen, finds her "children" disrespects her, gets into a row, and runs away, finding one of the friendlier creatures named Kötal. Kötal and George venture on to find Opus Kossel's---the vampire king that shape shifts into a giant hairless bat---and he and Kötal find another of Kötals kid. They tame it and they are on their away to the Castle Dimitrescu, which is the 17th century vampire castle, and they were being manipulated by Kötal, and he's throwing fits and talking in the third person; The next storyline is the two rivals scientific genetic research facilities, they are creating werewolves and releasing them into the city and then all shit breaks loose because that never ends well---alien comics I am talkong about you!--- and well, werewolves fight lycans and vampires fighting for dominance and what not. And the final storyline is that the destruction of the city because of the previous story line, how they fix it, how all shit breaks loose again, which will continue in the second book and end. The third has nothing to do with books 1 and 2. Books 4-6 talk about the seventeenth century vampire story line in depth and then it ends in 1940 when people discover them and they tear their city apart to go into hiding, hide in time woods, and enslave full time werewolves. If anyone cares to read this give me support and give me ideas on another trilogy. I'm writing a Resident Evil series, and a grim After Batman Arkham trilogy too. Arkham Falls, Arkham War, and Arkham Ends about the after events of Arkham Knight and before Gotham Knights. This will be the "end of the Batman... I do better working with a set word count per day. If I give myself a time limit, I'll waste all that time staring at the clock and mentally counting seconds. But that's just me; it's probably the other way around for some people.

I honestly think Daily wire (or another counter culture outlet) needs a publishing department for new writers and authors.

To me the thing that helped me the most was consistency. I had my daily objective to write 300 words almost every day for almost two years. Even if I was aware what I wrote wasn't the best and not what I had in mind, I continued writing, I would fix later what I didn't like. Also, my main advice is to stick with one project and not start new ones. You have new ideas? Good, try to re-adapt them to the already existing project, add depth to your work. I'm definitely not a successful writer. Heck, English is not even my first language, but I still managed to publish my book and even get a physical copy, and when you hold for the first time the thing you have worked so hard for in your hands, it doesn't matter if it will be successful or not, it doesn't matter if it's a masterpiece or a piece of crap, you'll still love that feeling. One last thing: write because you love to write, not for success or money.

Sure, it's easy as pie. Writing a _good_ one might be a little tricky, though. Just saying

Every video like this is a disservice to new writers. You cannot copy another writer's process with the expectation that its going to work just as well for you. It won't. You have to naturally form your own process over time. So the guy writers four hours a day. Great. What happens when the first draft is done? Do you edit yesterdays pages tomorrow? Do you reread yesterday's pages? Do you outline? Do you pants the whole draft? Do you write with 4 drinks in your system? There is no right answer for all, but there is a right answer for you. The only way to find it is to search for yourself.

I'm working on my first Novel, so I'm keeping each chapterr around 1500-1600 words it's a fast paced Sci-Fi, Action, Family Novel, how many chapters would be needed to consider it a Novel, I know some Novels contain around 3k words per chapter

4 hours a day is good advice some people me included need at least an hour or half an hour to get some momentum.

You can set the wheels rolling by startung off with a timer. Try setting a timer for 20 minutes and don't stop writing until the timer goes off. It works for me everytime!

How long does an amateur writer take to familiarize themselves with basic words that is used in writing. Not "basic" like words you learn as a child. But basic professional words.

A bit of advice from somebody who is absalutely not an expert but its to find youre pace. Some writers can absalutely freestyle a book. Some have a loose script and they are just navigating it. Some have a set of ideas and build their way to them. Some writers plan out the story for a while. I absolutely wouldn't recommend free flowing. Free flow begining to end writting isn't pacient and I would recomend it for short stories which tend to have less charaters less need to flesh things out it mitigates the long term issues. Organic writing has its place v8nce Gilligan's og plan for Jesse was to die in season 1 episode 9 of breaking bad. Had vince followed thay plan the show would be completely different. Jesse is one of the best charaters and a season 1 death would of hurt the show. You see you don't need a large systematic plan but you do need q plan of sorts. I use a combination of planning organic writing and creating scenes a head of time and deciding do they fit and how do I get there. A good writer if given a checklist should be able to naturally check the boxes off. If A seperates from his team mate B they don't get back together just because. Now it would be hard if they genuinly hate eachother. Well what if A gets back with B because they find out despite hating eachother they still know they are the perfect team despite the arguing. It depends on your story. Historical fiction requires you to Google everything I mean everything like did you know nobody was named Britney until the 60s. Sci-fi yoy got a world with rules and charaters factions ect So that's to qcount but the basic foundation that has nothing to do with the world should be done at a pace you worn with because your style of writing may not be this 1000 peice puzzle.

As for everything known to be perfect, discipline is the only way to achieve it. Something we lack. A lot.

Velas was attacked from the raiders, and Salvia finally attacked the raiders to try and save her, but it was too late. Salvia would finally have her first kills, but at the cost of her sister's life and her innocence. After the incident, Salvia was never the same but she still tried to stay faithful to her religion, even though she felt guilty as she broke the most important law of Divine Krovinity. Her family would console her about what she did and forgive her, and Velas herself for teaching the family a lesson about war and how to survive it. When Salvia reached her puberty, she would part ways with her family to join the Servants of Peace, while her family moved to the second layers, in which they were saved by the West. They both sent their goodbyes, and moved on from there.

All bullshit. They're talking about producing books. That's not writing. Writing is done when the inspiration is there and the channel is open. When you know you can get into the "zone." Then you become a conduit for honest delivery, not a scheming manufacturer of something that may or may not come from the heart, but is thoroughly tainted by deliberate mediation. The whole discipline myth of writing a set number of hours per day proves the point. If you want to do something well, you have to be ready to do it. Timing and planning are fine for book production, but how many of those set four-hour blocks are you really in true writing mode? (Even as a producer of books, you're not automatically at your best when the clocks strikes the hour. Although it's easier to get into manufacturing mode by, well, manufacturing it.) Just write: First thought, best thought. And write for the love of it. Forget about money, publishers, agents and all that industry crap unless you just want to manufacture novels. Write what's in YOU. Then we get something original and real. You are sharing something special and that's the purity of the art that we need. That's true writing. PS: Ben Shapiro is a frustrated high school debater who can easily be taken down by anyone who doesn't step into his little debating traps. He's also a tremendous douche.

writing is NOT easy. You have to take into account what story you want to tell, you need to learn about story structure, set up and pay offs, you need to learn the differences between book vs movie, you have to learn how to write dialogue, you have to learn how to write action scenes and it's a lot harder then you initially think coz you need to tango with so many things.
