Writing a SLOW FANTASY cue - Composing Tricks

Here is an idea to start writing a SLOW FANTASY cue. We are at 60bpm in 6/8 timing, if you go much faster it will turn into fantasy adventure.
Instruments Used:
Spitfire: Albion One Strings; BBCSO Flute, Piccolo and Harp
Native Instruments: Choir

Once again, Dex, you make things appear to be so simple... more than likely because they are. I think that creating some videos about the kinds of progressions to use when conveying certain musical moods would also be helpful... those and the types of instrumentation used to convey such moods... as in Fantasy is conveyed well with this type of progression and instrumentation, comedy, etc. Ten to fifteen minute videos for each one would be perfect. They wouldn't need to be in depth, but just in outline form. As always, Dex, your method of presentation as well as your level of experience shine through in these videos. BTW, I'll get back to you on the mellotron samples, etc., via email.

Hey Jim, that's a great idea... I'll need to have a think about that as I'm sure there is a method to my madness of selecting chords, keys and modes to use. Personally I don't worry too much about the theory and go with what sounds good, but it is fundamentally based on theory. For example this cue starts on Dm for a bit of uncertainty, but moves to end on a Gsus4 to G resolution which is the 4th rather than the traditional 5th, but the chord before that Gsus4 is Abmaj7 which I know works, but can I explain why?...Like I say... I'll have a think! :)

@@DexWilliamsMusic It's just to offer someone a place to start so they can learn more as they practice. I hope that makes sense. Give it a think... take some time to develop it. Go back to look at some of the cues that you're already written as chordal, harmonic, and arranging 'guides' for such videos. Cheers!

I might make that an alternative episode for Composing Tips on a Wednesday as it doesn't matter what DAW you are using to apply the technique too. Great idea :)
