This is seen through out history. Nebuchadnezzar , Belshazzar grandfather was also humbled when his pride crossed the line. (Daniel 4:28-33) And many other examples like, There was a statement made that not even God could sink the Titanic ship and we know what happened there. (Proverbs 16:18) Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. (Psalm 14:1) The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. (Acts 4:12) Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name(Jesus / Yeshuah) under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Romans (10:13)For whosoever shall call upon the name of Yeshuah(Jesus) shall be saved.

Just seems to me that god would be more understanding, take into account Belshazzar's upbringing, father (basically) going nuts, etc. Just reading up on it a bit more and a lot of bad things went down, wish god would have intervened earlier. If he wanted to deliver a message, why not just tell him directly or at least write it in a language that he could understand? Lately I'm finding that there are a lot of sayings/adages that, when you think about it, don't actually make sense or mean anything profound. Think we'd agree that the titanic sank due to design flaws and icebergs. No god involved there, though the freezing/drowning people probably could have used his help

He gives people warnings, he guides people, he is loving and patient but he also judges. And you can be sure there was much more going on in Belshazzars life to get him in this situation. Your cited scripture has been understood time and time again by theologists to be referring to both Lord Jesus/Yeshua AND Yahweh/ the almighty.
