It’s really hard being Jewish with Zionist parents when I am… not Zionist and believe that Palestine should be free and hope for their liberation. Genocide is never okay. Heartbreaking.

What works for me when I want to do X, but I have to do Y is this: I let myself do X for a full 48 hour, during which time I don't even think about Y. It's like Y doesn't even exist. I basically tell myself I have 48 hours to do as much for X as I can, and this includes jotting down notes on all the stuff I want to do for X that I know I won't have time during these 48 hours. By getting all this X energy out your system AND not thinking about Y for two full days, you create something like a hard reset in your brain. You also remove all the brainspace taken up by thoughts about X. Because right now your mind can't shift to Y, because it's stuck on X, so you kind of have to give yourself that time with X. 48 hours may seem like a lot when you're on a tight schedule, but (1) often those 48 hours feel like a "break" and breaks are always essential to our process anyway, and (2) the value of those 48 hours will pay off so much more later on. Basically after those 48 hours, you mentally shift back to Y, THEN create a brand new schedule based on this new reality. ONCE that's done, you take a baby step into Y, with no big goals like, "Today I'll work for 8 hours." No, you just say, "Today, I'll start. I'll do 10 minutes. I'll do 100 words. I'll think about how to start." WHATEVER baby goal you have. Because otherwise, if you don't do this hard reset, you'll always feel torn between projects and that just wastes so much mental energy. ALSO, if X is a constant burning passion, you can also include 30 minutes of free-time for that project or something like "on weekdays I do X, but on weekdays I do Y." Anyway, doing a combination of these has really helped me out. I hope they help you out or at least spark a desire to come up with a new strategy to get out of that mindset. Either way, you got this!

That sounds like a really strong system!! I ended up just kind of deciding to do one and now I have a bit more headspace to re/decide what to do about the other one. But I probably will just do a little bit of it per day. So basically kind of like what you said, just without time limits 👍🏾
