For people that struggle to understand Sheikh Salih Al Fawzans opinion I have a part of his book you can read to insha allah that will make you understand more. In "A Summary of Islamic Jurisprudence" by sheikh Salih Al Fawzan, Page 127, Chapter 5: Prayer: Integral Parts, Obligatory Practices And Acts of the Sunnah. He writes, "In addition to the above, there are many verbal and physical acts of the sunnah concerning prayer pointed our details in juristic books. At any rate, it is not obligatory to observe these acts of the Sunnah during prayer; whoever observes them or any of them will be rewarded, and there is no sin on those who do not observe them, just like the ruling on all other acts of the Sunnah. We do not find any logical justification of the strictness and narrow-mindedness observed by some youth nowadays when applying the acts of Sunnah during prayer, which may lead them to perform it in a very strange manner. For instance, some of them may bow their heads while standing as if they were in a sate of bowing. They may also put their hands on the upper part of the chest, under the neck, instead of putting them on the chest or under the navel as stated in the Sunnah. In addition, some of them are so strict on keeping themselves screened while praying (so that no one can pass in front of them) that they do not perform the supererogatory prayer in the same row (where they have offered a congregational prayer); they rather perform it elsewhere in the mosque provided it is a screened place. Some of those strict youth also stretch their heads forwards and their legs backwards during prostration that they look as if they were lying on the ground rather than prostrating. Furthermore, some of them, while being in a standing position, keep their feet wide apart in a way that disturbs those beside them. These are, in fact strange practices that may lead to strictness and excessiveness, which are detestable in religion." So if you don't feel like reading all that this is the important part: "Furthermore, some of them, while being in a standing position, keep their feet wide apart in a way that disturbs those beside them. These are, in fact strange practices that may lead to strictness and excessiveness, which are detestable in religion."

It was narrated from ‘Abd-Allah ibn ‘Umar that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Make your rows straight, stand shoulder to shoulder and close the gaps, and do not resist your brothers’ hands. Do not leave any gaps for the Shaytaan. Whoever complete a row, Allah will reward him, and whoever breaksa row, Allah will forsake him. Abu Dawood said: What is meant by “Do not resist your brothers’ hands” is that a man should be easy-going if his brother pushes him forwards or backwards to make the row straight. (‘Awn al-Ma’bood). Narrated by Abu Dawood, 666; al-Nasaa’i, 819. Classed as saheeh by al-Albani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 620.

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-'Uthaymin From the extremism that has occurred with regard to this issue is what is done by some people in that one of them will join his ankle to the ankle of his companion, and he will spread his feet so far apart until there is a gap between his shoulder and the shoulder of his companion, so he will oppose the Sunnah by doing that. But the aim is that the shoulders and ankles should be in line with each other.

Don't argue in the comments. The hadith "ankle to ankle" this part was added by Anas, Anas in the hadith added "If you did that to one of them today, they would flee". So as the sheikh said at the end, it would be too much burden if this was legislated.

Brother who from the Salaf understood this hadith to mean the feet literally have to be touching? Have any of the scholars understood this hadith to mean they literally have to be touching? We shouldn’t extract Fiqhi rulings from Hadith directly without scholars preceding us in doing so as we are laymen and not qualified to do so. May Allah guide us

@@zeeshanch6830 Yes brother, but we don't do blind taqleed on one single scholar regardless of how reputable he is, as one scholar is one opinion. We take the hadith, then we look at what the scholars have said (like sheikh al Albani) and Alhamdulillah many scholars of ahlussunnah wal jama'ah have confirmed that indeed one should have the feet touch. By me disagreeing with this opinion I don't go against Sheikh al Fawzan as a layman, I go with evidence both from the sunnah and the scholars who know more about the religion than I do, and Alhamdulillah I am entitled to follow either of the two opinions.

There is no compulsion for the feet, ankles, knees to be touching. Not a big issue. If the person next to you doesn't mind then fine, but if he does mind then don't compell him as you do no want both of your salat to be disturbed by some altercation or disturbance.

Don't mix Salafi with Hanbali. These are 2 different things. Being a Salafi does not mean not following any madhhab. Rather, it means to have the aqeedah of the Salaf. Worshiping Allah on Tawheed alone and confirming His names and attributes. One can also be a Hanafi Salafi. This thing you mention is a difference of opinion, if it is as clear and simple as you say, surely the scholars would have figured it out before us. We should stay out of these fiqh matters and follow a scholar or a madhhab. All Madhahib go by the Quran and Sunnah, they do not have their evidence from the Torah. This kind of thinking reflects badly on the Salafiya. May Allah reward you and make us better.

@@haqembassador another jahil all four madhab agreed women salah differs from man in certain areas not in obligatory matters like how much we pray or surah we read sujood etc Ruling: He (i.e. Abu l-Qasim al-Khiraqi al-Hanbali, (d. 334 H)) said: 'And the man and woman are equal in this (i.e. the description of Salah) except that the woman collects herself when bowing and prostrating and she sits in the tarabbu' position (inserting the left foot between the thigh and shin of the right leg) or she practises sadl by placing them both to her right side.'"The default is that whatever is established for men from the rules of Salah is established with respect to a woman because the address (of the Shari'ah) encompasses both of them; except that she differs from him in not separating (her limbs) because she is 'awrah (as established in hadith). Hence, it is preferred for her to collect herself so that it is more concealing for her, because there is no surety that something will not appear from her in the situation of separating (her limbs), and likewise when (sitting in) the iftirash position (i.e. erecting the right foot so the toes point towards the qiblah and sitting on the left foot).Ahmad said: 'Sadl is more appealing to me.' Al-Khallal preferred this. 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'When the woman prays, she should draw (herself) together, and join her thighs," and (it was narrated) from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he would order the women to adopt the tarabbu' position in Salah." (Mughni, Dar 'Alam al-Kutub, 2:258-9){/jb_bluebox} Imam Ahmad's son, 'Abd Allah, narrates:I said (to Imam Ahmad): 'How does a woman prostrate and how does she sit for Tashahhud?' He said: 'However is most concealing (for her).'" (Masa'il al-Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal Riwayat Ibnihi 'Abdillah ibn Ahmad, al-Maktab al-Islami, p. 79)
