I do like these films but it's a shame what a mess production was with the behind the scenes drama. They would have been something magical if they had been given ample time and planning.

Seeing that the films came out this fine, even they're not comparable to LOTR, it showed some real talents behind the production.

But I love Saruman.

He would have stabbed the lore of the novels completelly then. In the books, little is said abou the assault of the Council against the Necromancer... but one thing is sure: the Two Blue Wizards (the only ones not to appear) where not present; as they traveled far away and never appeared again in the Middle Earth. About the Nâzgul being in Dol Guldur... not accurate either. They where in Minas Morgul, in Mordor; fidthing a cold war against Gondor, and secretly re-building the Dark Country to prepare Saurons reutrn... And about Sarumans downfall... did not occur there neither. After Sauron fleed to Bard-Dhur; Saruman and the Council had not power to attack him in Mordor; where his magic level was almost god-like and his orcs armies would prevent any attack... So, Saruman begun preparing schemes to take down Sauron. He studied the nature of the Rings; planing maybe to create some of his own... He also spyed Mordor and its defenses using the Palantir of Orthanc. But the Witch King had conquered the old Gondorian citty of Minas Ithil; and corrupted it into Minas Morgul; and the Palantir of Morgul was offered to Sauron. With his own Palantir, Sauron could "interceptate" the vision of Saruman. At first, the White Wizzard would be cautious... but with time he would defied the Dark Lord, engage him in large converstions, look in his mind, search for a weak spot... Saruman learned a lot in this studies. He spent decades in this battle of wills with Sauron. But Sauron and Saruman where too alike to begin with. Saruman soon learned thre was no hope. He slowly surrendered to Sauron... he begun to build an orc army in the deeps of the Tower. He offered sumision to his new master... In his mind; however, Saruman was ploting to overtake the Dark Lord. To learn of him to later stabb him. But as Gandalf stated, the power ends up corrupting. By the time of "The Fellowshipof the Ring"; Saruman is dedicated to betray and destroy Sauron... he wants the Ring for himself. But not to free Middle Earth... but to become the new Dark Lord. So, long story short; Sruman took YEARS to switch sides; showing it in the Hobbit would have been an abismal error.

It's one way to show that despite being a wizard fighting on the good side, there are also powerful beings fighting on the bad side and that Gandalf cannot solve all of their problems.

It would explain why he failed his duties as a wizard.

+Monsour Anda Radagast didn't quit being a wizard after the Battle of Five Armies. He had a small role in Lord Of The Rings, but Radagast's actions during and after the rest of the War are not recorded.

Supposedly (we really don't know) Radagast was so root on Middle Earth that he gave up his mission... I mean, the Istari where supposed to face Sauron. Saruman became leader of "the resistance"; and became lord of wisdom and knowledge; even the one concerning Sauron (orc-making, ring making, dark magic...) basically becoming Sauron's disciple in the process... Both Blue wizards dissapeared from history; probably travelled out of Middle Earth (Rhun, Harad or even further) and didn't appear again. Radagast, stayed in Middle Earth; but he was in love with the creatures and the beasts. His colour, "the Brown"; marked his connection with nature and wildlife... In the Hobbit they portray his a kind of hippie... althougth in the books is stated that he continues to serve the Council, but Saruman despises him in secret, considering him the weakest of them all. Lot of the creatures Saruman controls, are indeed 'taken from' Radagast; who offers their services to Saruman in the believe that the White Mage is still the greater enemy of Sauron... but when the war comes by; Radagst remains in his home, in the Southern Black Forest. He surelly does not participate in the war between Dol Guldur and Lothlorien (otherwise Galadriel would have menioned him) but he could have help the Beorlings (descendants of Beorn) or simply help the creatures of the woods... He could also serve as a messenger between Rivendel and the Eagles, as thesse beast offer themselves as messengers during the war (this is why they arrive in time to Mordor in the final battle... and NO, they weren't suitable for a stealth mission) but no information is given for sure... Only Gandalf remains loyal to his mission. He wanders Middle Earth for ages, helping people and meddling in businnes; creating enemies and rivals; but eventually bringing always a happy ending (the Hobbit is a good example). Although he grows atached to the people of the land (the same Saruman gets attach to the power and the misteries of magic, politics and science; and Radagast to beast and creatures) Ganfalf always works with just one goal: defeating Sauron. Even the Shire; witch it is his own soft spot (only goes there as sort of vacation) ends up twisted when he realises that only hobbits can whistand the Rings power for a prolongate period; hence being needed a hobbit to bear the Ring to Mordor. After Sauron is defeated; Gandalf feels completed, his quest fullfilled; feels the need to leave his beloved land and return to Valinor. After all, he was a master bound to teach a path, not a man destined to walk it. In contrast, Saruman ended diying, his soul errant without a body; unable to corrupt or hurt anyone no more. About the Blues, nothing is now; but surelly they would remain wandering the world, the same as Radagast; too obsesed with the wonders of the world to ever consider their mission has been allready completed. Will they return to Valinor? Or willt they fade into oscurity? Or remain foerever as wanderes, lost in time and purppose? We don't really now...
