I think it's kind of baked into the present day GOP, and their media stooges, that the majority of their truth claims are incorrect. And that's on a good day. But America has been an incubator of dishonesty from the earliest arrivals, who were self-selected for their gullibility. The implausible lies they were told to induce them to emigrate were so transparent that anyone with their critical faculties in working order would have not gone within a mile of the gangplank. Bryson's book "Made in America" makes sobering reading.

It boggles my mind that the biggest infraction ppl are going with here is when this happened, and not that Britt did this without any permission or communication with the victim. You don't do that to a victim you say you care about, it is literally complete disregard. That's the most dishonest and outrageous thing of all here to me. The real substance of it, the deep uncaring insult to victims.

It's not so much that Katie Britt's lied about the exact circumstances of the trafficked woman, since the woman she cited was trafficked by the cartels within Mexico. My problem is that the border policy she supports would send victims like that back to Mexico, into the hands of the cartels, with no chance of asylum.

With all due respect, Britt may have delivered the rebuttal, but there is no way that it was not vetted by some top-ranking republicans. Ultimately, I am fairly certain that what she said, as well as the manner in which it was delivered, was what had been planned. I don't see how a person can be repulsed or embarrassed by the rebuttal without being repulsed and embarrassed by the GoP as a whole.

In 1986, President Reagan granted amnesty to 3 million illegal immigrants. In 1989, President George H.W. Bush granted amnesty to 1.5 million illegal immigrants. This is what has encouraged millions to make the trek north. The reasoning being if you make it over the border, just sit tight and patiently wait for the next amnesty law.
