The question is "How hard can it be?"
@bigmacntings7451
@bigmacntings7451 4 жыл бұрын
Well it's not really a "training" session at all is it?, it's more of a light entertainment and good TV. Serious training would start off in a tub until you get the hang of balance- oars feathered correctly and at strike, also synchronising properly with the other crew. after that you'll move on to either quad/double tracer sculls or fours/eights(with cox), depending on your aptitude. if you get really good then you move up to the racing boats, big guys with the power at stroke end,smaller guys with the technique(or steering ability if coxless) at bow end. as for single sculls,you need to master all three at once-power,steering accuracy and balance.they aren't the easiest to row especially on a tidal course.

I would say he had it hard. Most people learn t row in tub boats which are much wider and more stable. It took me almost nine months before i could comfortably row in fine boats, and more than a year to get the hang of single sculls. (which I now race)
@y337
@y337 8 жыл бұрын
In west coast United States that hasn't been the case for the most recent generations of rowers. Now it's no tubs, no barges. I believe most learn to row/novices are started in an 8 that was likely used at some point as the varsity A or B boat in a major race, when it was fresh and new. The coaches call it trickle down rowing when the best of the team use the new equipment while the older it gets, it eventually makes its way down to those who seldom have rowed before.
@samuelwarshaw9480

It would probably be better to start out on the fine boats because it forces you to learn rather than rely on handicaps and so on

A lot depends on the "coaches " and on the learners . One day 2 of us took a couple kayak paddlers out in a regular 4 man boat . After 15-20 minutes they weren't half bad . Mind you , we were good at coaching and they were good athletes . Later they reciprocated and took us 2 rowers out in their 4 man flat water racing kayak .

100 meter isn't even 30 seconds in a racing boat. shortest sprints we did were 500m. typical race is 2k so 7-8 minutes. head of river races are fun but brutal. like you said 6-8k depending on current and that's 20-25 minutes solid flat out. current against you totally wipes you out!!!!

Whoops, when I checked it, I realised that it was for a 100m track event... Scratch that. Well I went 14.0 and was the fourth best in the country, so I think someone else must have been able to do something better than that! My splits were peaking at 1:05 in the last couple strokes, and I don't reckon it would take much more to get beneath 14.0.

When you fall off an erg the water’s gonna get interesting very fast, even if your do improve quickly.

They are called BLADES and it is not oar locks or blade locks they are the GATES on the end of the rigger

Read the comments. In different countries, they are called different things. Most people agree, the blades are only the part of the oar that go into the water.
