The problem is that he tried to destroy other people who confessed that he doped. He SUED them for slander, fighting against the truth! He SUED friends, athletic colleagues, and went against everybody who told the truth.

Sooner or later it was going to come out. He confessed because he got caught, not because he was sorry for the many lives he hurt and betrayed. Pre-dope Lance Armstrong was a great stage rider, but was never considered a contender to win the Tour de France. The red flag that got some to look into Armstrong's track record was seeing him perform somewhat adequately, yet sub-par, before his first TdF win, then after his "comeback from cancer," going on to win that race not once, but seven times in a row.

He cheated to benefit himself, he lied about it to benefit himself, and he did battled with his accusers to benefit himself. Who does this apology benefit? Any satisfaction others may gain by embracing it is nothing more than a secondary byproduct of another attempt to benefit himself. They say it's takes a big man to admit when he's wrong, this is not that. This is him hoping for credit by bowing downing when he can longer stand up. This is an apology to benefit himself, nothing more.

Lol, i watched the movie dodgeball a week after he admitted to doping and in the film he says, "You know peter, i once thought of quitting when i got lung, brain and testicular cancer at the same time. But then i kept going and went on to win the tour de france 5 years in a row." All i kept thinking was, 'well this is awkward..'

I would like to hear Lance talk about how he was able to conceal his doping over the years so that more stringent and successful doping tests can be created. Either that or let all the bike riders use PEDs' under a Doctors supervision of course. There are too many ways to mask the drugs being used today and in my opinion, almost every big cycle rider is using one way or another.

Doping is never acceptable. Sport is meant to be a fair competition, athletes shouldn't resort to cheating which then pushes out people competing clean. Too little too late

Bruh hate to break it to you but the sports world is running extraordinarily rampant with performance enhancing drugs, and it will never go away. As long as PEDs give performers millions of more dollars than they’d otherwise earn, there will be cheaters.

Personally I admire Lance Armstrong for what he did. He was part of dozens of organizations and charities to better the world. The Lance Armstrong Foundation alone donated over $470 million to the fight against cancer. Winning events like these are often a combination of skill and dishonesty. Many great athletes admit to using banned PEDs after their careers are over, and even more stay silent while reaping the rewards. He used his fame and fortune to better the world in a way no other champion would've. He made a great contribution to the lives of millions of struggling people and he is a great man, regardless of what people say. It's all a game in a culture of PEDs and he won and used that in an honourable way. Some things are just more important.

Admire? It's an entreprise dude, they have money and using it for charity is normal. It's not like Armstrong took money out of his pocket to givr to the poor. He needed propaganda, he was the idol for many people, it was all about the image. Don't make him look like a God, he was bever one and will never be. He is just a loser, who deceived the world.

Rich people make charities to ensure their name stay famous. It's done with cameras and writeups. They also do it to be on the payroll. That money they do for charity is your money. Selfless people donate their own time and money and don't need others to know.

It’s not just that he doped, many did. Not saying it was right. But not only did he lie, he went after people and ruined them. His hypocrisy, petty but destructive vengeance, arrogance and just plain nastiness is astounding and leaves a huge legacy.

Good grief man it's not that black & white. He potentially robbed other ahtletes from winning the hardest endurance race in the world for 7 years, he accepted millions of pounds of prize money and millions in sponsorship deals which enabled him to live a privelaged lifestyle the majority of us can only dream about. He was an icon to young kids and sports fans around the globe and vetted as one of the greatest athletes in history. But he was just a cheat. Despicable human being.

I think that Lance Armstrong is a great bloke for two reasons: reason one, nearly all of them were doping. So, it was, pretty much, a level playing field. I am not saying that people should cheat by doping, or that what went on was right. I believe that if none of them were doping that it is possible that Armstrong would almost certainly have won at least six of those Tour de France titles. It was also pointed out in the 2 part documentary that he was upset about the doping when he first appeared on the Tour De France circuit. Reason 2: The cancer charity he set up has saved countless lives, and provides priceless care for many. He has never taken a penny of that charity's money, and he could have been paid a wage legitimately for the work he did. He's a great bloke.

People defending him and making excuses for him and saying stuff like "well all major athletes dope" they're missing the point. The problem is that if 95% of guys are doping then they have a major advantage over the 5% of guys that are clean. And in my opinion doping is a sign of a lack of confidence.

Because sports in general are one big cheat. Ego play. Where is ego - there are no honesty or love because EGO is in the first place (and money for those who make money out of EGO). The only real competition in sports is who is better at cheating. One cheater got caught, but at that time when he wasn't caught - he was the best cheater at that short period of time. Because victories are temporary, then you get old and replaced... So whats the thrill then about sports and victories?

Well if you look at it in a more positive way. The man had metastasized testicular cancer. He lost one of his testosterone factory (very important for sports) and underwent a treatment that literary destroys your body (for a time). Not only did he survive this but with a little help from medicine became the multiple champion in one of the toughest sports out there. That must be really encouraging for people in similar position - not to got to these kinds of extremes of course but to continue their normal lives with modern medicine.

Nope, Armstrong wasn't seen at all as a potential Tour der France winner in his early years. He was a good time trialist, but not a good climber. But after his comeback he was all of a sudden pretty much unbeatable as a climber. So it's quite safe that he wouldn't have won at least six of those Tour de France titles without doping. This is all the more true, because we know that Armstrong was the king of doping. It's obvious that he took even more drugs than the others. A level playing field? Nothing could be further from the truth.

The problem with your comment is you said ''These honest, hard working men and women were robbed of medals, money, and glory'' when most of the riders in that era were doped. Don't think that lance is the only one that doped, many cyclist have doped as well but lance is the one that won the championship. Still Armstrong is a big loser

You have a good point, sir. However, doping, whether or not we want to admit it, is a part of the sport. In an ideal world, it would not exist. But it DOES exist, and likely always will to varying degrees. To not accept this is to not live in the real world. And those cyclists who chose to retire early instead of deciding to dope should be commended for their sacrifice. Honestly though, what were they expecting? Call it a filthy and dishonest reality, but such is life, my friend.
