Physicist Brian Greene takes you on a visual, conceptual, and mathematical exploration of Einstein’s spectacular insights into space, time, and energy. In just 11.5 hours, using nothing more advanced than high school algebra, journey from Einstein’s earliest musings on the speed of light to his startling realization that time can tick at different rates to his revolutionary discovery of the world’s most famous formula, E = mc2.
This is a more in-depth and mathematical version of the WSU Master Class “Space, Time, and Einstein.” • WSU: Space, Time, and ...

@@Quantum_Mathematics What I mean is Einstein did not invent special relativity and he was wrong about so many ideas between relativity and quantum mechanics that he should not be taken seriously, but the physicists have built a cult around this man due to the prevalence of false information and media overhyping his genius.

Guys, this is not just 11 hours! Go into the link in the description, you will find problems, office hours, discussions, etc. This is pure gold. I have been attending this for about a month, taking my time to understand the ideas, do the exercises, etc. and I can attest that this experience has been beyond great. I cannot begin to describe how thankful I am for the effort you have made to make the ideas easy to understand, while not omitting the mathematics behind all of it. You've made Einstein proud

Loved when he was explaining where gamma should go, and how physicists just think should it be bigger or smaller? I have been doing this a lot and wasn't sure how everybody else would do it. Special relativity and physics always gives me the feeling that we can attain speeds near the speed of light without having to deal with mass and friction and whatsoever from the classic physics because I feel just like how there is time dilation, there will be space dilation as well, and using that we can fly at higher speeds relative to the observer, but not relative to the source, thus the physical forces won't really matter. This is IMO directly related to expansion of the universe.

This was a fantastic overview! It's rare that a course aimed at lay people goes this much in detail into the math. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the lessons and working through the examples. Perhaps Dr. Greene could do a course of a similar style on quantum mechanics next?

It appears I've become addicted to Brian Greene. Thank's for giving me a tentative grasp of special relativity! It's like high school physics condensed in 12hrs. It makes a lot more sense if you see it all in this "relatively" :) small time frame compared to my first 2 years of physics. I wish my mind had the capacity to wrap itself around it all but this comes closer than I've gotten before. I have to say I like all the WSF videos, specially the ones with Brian as a moderator, he has a way of making it accessible. ty!

I actually find Special Relativity weirder, because the basic idea is so easy to explain and the maths are so straightforward. At least squares of amplitudes and wavefunction collapse have the decency to LOOK complicated.

One of his great talent is that he can explain complicated ideas simply and clearly while keeping us engaged. That’s so hard to do! I have to run a 1 hour meeting every month and struggles to keep people focused 😆. I’m thoroughly engaged, entertained and educated… thanks Brian Greene!

Fascinating, never before have I seen it being explained so well but undoubtedly previous presentations from others had me prepared. The graphs showing the effect from the velocity in the formulas is really important. I finished 2 hours watching but this is so well presented I'm going to watch everything.

Brian Greene takes something that is difficult and dull and turns it into an 11-hour of scintillating and exciting subject is as impressive an accomplishment as Einstein’s achievements. This is not to take anything away from the great Einstein!

I hate maths, I hate physics... But OMG... I can watch, listen and learn from Prof Greene all day long. Although my main interest is cosmology and cosmic things in general, I am absolutely fascinated by all of the stuff shown and explained here. Some of the stuff required rewinding and watching again so I can understand but these 11 hrs answered a lot of the questions I have had recently. And I have a lot of questions. My daily life has nothing to do with maths and physics but the likes of Bryan Greene, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Janna Levine and many more just make my life so much interesting and make me ask more and more questions and seek answers that modern astrophysicists and cosmologists seek answer to. Thank you prof Greene for that enlightenment. Really was interesting.

The way he explained the things through animations & graphs made us learn the things to bones. I have even made the notes of his lecture as I wanted to get all the things into my mind and didn't want to leave any piece of information. Thanks a lot sir Brian Greene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🙂

Re Time Dilation Examples: you should note in your teaser about the symmetry breaker that there's a change in velocity at the initial launch as well as at the waypoint and that the launch could have occurred somewhere out in space such that the ship simply cruises by the Earth at the start of the experiment.
