Fatigue definitely played a role in this match, but credit to Bencic, showing some of the form that brought her to world number 7 winning 2 clutch matches in a row. Also, can we just talk about that Bh? Such a smooth, watchable stroke, looks as though she sweeps rather than striking the ball. Immaculate timing on the off forehand and backhand! There are a few who hate and say rubbish about Simona and I feel sorry for these ones as it only shows what empty lives they have and how empty they might be inside themselves! They may have no idea about how it is to play tennis or to be in top 10, and neither have any of their ancestors.. . This girl has brought a lot of joy to me by showing great quality tennis and I think and wish her well regardless of her winning or losing! The real losers are those with bitter heart and hate for her!

Bencic is a very smooth player. She glides about the court and has great strength from her hips and legs. The shots and swing are economical. Amazing how she gets around the ball and up and over on that back hand. The forehand is deadly accurate on inside out or cross court. Great net player as well.Serve is decent when going properly. You never know, because a Slam draw may open for her to go far in it....................if she keeps this up.

What makes me so impressed about bencic in this tournament is her control of her temperament whenever she is down or during important situations.... And Bencic ability of building the points up is back to best or even better she is having more precision in her shots and she is definitely lasting longer in a point

Her recent wins over Sabalenka and Halep should not surprise anyone. Injury-free Bencic reminds me of the great Monica Seles. Superior tennis. If she can keep it up and leave all those injury-prone seasons behind, she's definitely top 3 material, an a par with Osaka and a tad above current top seeds Pliskova, Kvitova, Halep, Svito, Woz, Kerb, etc... As for Simona Halep, it pains me to say so because she's my darling, sweet spot player, but we're looking at new Simona now: although she plays beautifully and seems very fit and healthy (to the point of burning tons of energy just for the hell of it), she seems to simply go through all the motions without a care about the outcome. As in "My current job is to play tennis, and they pay me gorgeously to do just that, but now that I have my Slam I just don't give a damn anymore, and as long as my talent enables me to hang around the top 10 for another 5 years or so, let's do it, take the money, and spend more time enjoying life, shall we?". She totally loosed the "obsessive nerd" attitude to which some psycho players seem addicted to, and she's moving on. But at this level, like of desire takes away that crucial little extra grit which see you snatch the edge points. Bencic is fit and hungry, Simona is content and can't be bothered... no surprise there. I suspect Simona is going to produce more wonderful matches along more disheartening losses in the final stages when she meets ravenous players such as Svitolina, Sabalenka, Bencic and so many other dying for supreme recognition.

The very first serious test for Simona, & failed. Rather, Belinda's performance should be appreciated. Time on court, strange Fed cup calendar etc., Halep must be tired as seen touching her left (?) thigh. Bencic, surprisingly, looked fresh again or even better on court today. Her improvement with patience was clearly visible in the previous season, & carrying it on. A titanic battle with Sabalenka gave her a huge boost, confidence & motivation! So, to challenge Halep was very significant for Bencic. Close to the baseline to take the ball early, her improved consistency pushed Halep into working hard. This victory lift her ranking position to 33th. Leap frog! Svitolina is a gorgeous rival to prove her quality. Will be an exciting match! Good luck for both!
