1. Elaine Duch, World Trade Centre burn victim, being wheeled into news conference
2. Pull back from Duch with family in front of photographers
3. SOUNDBITE: (English) Dr Palmer Bessy, Weill Cornell Hospital Burn Centre:
"This is a far happier beautiful Tuesday in New York than the first Tuesday when we met Ms Duch. She came to us from St Vincents where she had been evacuated and she arrived upstairs after a period of time in the emergency department in our burn unit at about 6pm that day. She was critically ill on the ventilator and many other forms of life support, she had burns over 77 per cent of her body and she also had a severe injury of her lungs."
4. SOUNDBITE: (English) Elaine Duch, World Trade Centre burn victim:
"Well I got hurt on the 88th floor. And I remember that they got an elevator and we went down to the 44th floor and then from there we walked all the way down and see I got hurt on 88 but I did manage to get out of the building. Yes Tower One. Well it was a fire and so I don't know if I was on fire or if it was the heat and my watch snapped off and my glasses shattered."
(QUESTION): "Heard from other people coming down, the stairways were very crowded?" "Yes, they had to move out of the way because they said there is a hurt person, move and they went to the side to I could go down. There were a couple of people, Jerry Gaim was one of them, who was helping me going down. I can't remember who the other person was."
(QUESTION): "How long was it before you realised what had happened?"
"I guess about a month ago when I was able to understand and realise where I was."
5. Mid view of Duch with one of her rescuers
STORYLINE:
A woman who was severely burned during the World Trade Centre attacks in September was released from hospital on Tuesday after four months of treatment.
Her face and body bandaged, 49-year-old Elaine Duch, told reporters at Weill Cornell Hospital's Burn Centre that she was on the 88th floor of the one of the twin towers on September 11 when she was injured.
Rescuers helped her get down.
Wearing a New York Fire Department baseball cap, Duch said it was not until a month ago that she understood the extent of the attack on the World Trade Centre and the casualties.
Duch is the 11th trade centre burn patient to be released from the medical centre.

You go into a very deep shock when you get burnt that badly which kinda numbs the pain. I was badly burned on both of my feet all the way up to my knees when I was 12, I didn't cry once. It hurt bad but it didn't hurt like anyone would expect it to hurt. I was mostly just well, you know... shocked that I was burned this badly. There were so many other things racing through my mind to the point where my brain was kind of blocking out the pain if that makes any sense at all.

Michael Wright, is a family friend, that worked in the North tower. I’m shocked, & inclined to believe. That he might’ve crossed paths, with this brave women, as she was rushed down😳. He survived the collapse of the South tower, & narrowly survived the North. From what I know, Michael spoke of his ordeal, only once. This specific moment, resonated with me though. Michael was blessed enough to have been right below the jeopardized floors. He sustained injuries, from the blast. But was thankfully Mobile, & had access to the stairs. On his way there, he & another coworker helped a women who was stuck in one of the bathrooms. When they reached the stairs, several other people were hurriedly going down the stairs, trying to leave the building. At that point, he still had no clue what had happened. Everyone was speculating “ Explosions or fire”. After a few minutes, Michael started hearing shouts from above him. Someone was rapidly rushing down the stairs. As they made their way past everyone. They shouted, “Out of the way, move out of the way”. Michael, & all of the others that were in the way. Pressed up against the wall, as the group of people rushed past him. He saw two men holding a woman, & another two, holding a man. He said the women, “had terrible burns on her face & arms”. She looked to be partially unconscious, because she was groaning, but was limp. The other burn victim, “Had his back completely exposed & horribly burned”. The back of his shirt, had melted onto his skin. So it was hard for the men, that were helping him, to get a good grip on him. He also encountered firefighters heading up the stairs, as he was running down. Several people asked what was going on. But all they got were “ we are not sure”, or “ keep exiting down, don’t stop”. He said he recalls the faces of those brave men, every moment. I’m not sure, if these 2 survivors, were the ones that he crossed paths, as they were all fighting to survive. But a lot of things coincide. Michael underwent several surgeries. He had several shards of fiber glass, embedded in his skin & eyes. He’s had breathing issues since then. He survived the towers. But like hundreds of other survivors. He was forever, mentally & physically scarred. Understandably, Michel was never the same, after that day. THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS GRAPHIC CONTENT. PLEASE DO NOT READ IF IT IS TOO MUCH. Michael said the images that haunts him the most, are of the bodies of “The jumpers”. When he made it to the bottom, they headed towards the main exits, but stopped immediately. He saw the windows were splattered with what he perceived as blood. As he looked closer. He saw the human remains that were dispersed on the yard. He put 2+2 together, & decide against going out that way, for fear of getting hit by a falling body. He & a few people headed down the stairs, onto the Mall below. Hoping to exist through a safer area, away from the towers. But at that moment, the S tower collapsed. He crouched down, & waited for death. Surprised that he was alive. He noticed he was buried under dust & fallen objects. He couldn’t see & it was hard to breath. It was a pitch black place. But he felt his way through, hoping to find an exit. Luckily, he made out a small light. So he made his way towards it. It turned out to be a firefighter, using his flashlight to guide other survivors out of that room. He never saw his coworker & the lady he helped, ever again. This is his story, I hope I did it justice. I pray for the victims of 9/11. May they rest in eternal peace.

When I first heard about her in a documentary, they'd said she was waiting for an elevator when the airplane struck Tower 1. The ignited fuel from the plane leaked down the elevator shafts. When Elaine's elevator opened, she caught on fire. This all happened within seconds, so there was no way to prevent it from happening. I'm truly surprised Elaine was able to survive this. I didn't even think she'd live long enough to make it out the building. When you're burned that badly, you're organs are exposed to all kinds of bacteria that the skin usually keeps out. She was exposed to a lot more bacteria than "normal" as a result of all the particles in the air around her. Many burn victims who survive the fire end up dying from infection later on. It's literally a miracle that she made it out alive and continued to survive after that.
