Actually Canada has less ''land'' but most people don't know that. Since 60% of the world's lakes are in Canada (over 3 million lakes) the actual land surface becomes slightly smaller than that of the United States.

LC86 Well I was typing in English and Montreal without the accent is perfectly ok, wiki it. But since you're so keen on linguistics and phonetics, you can't hear the accent on the e when spoken, so what you may have heard or not is irrelevant at this point. Add to the fact that the city is bilingual, so if I were to speak in french: J'aurais dit Montréal. Cheers.
