KZfaq started by standing up to conventional media to free up creativity. And it won! Before it was all about freedom. Now because of money, it's bowing down to the very enemy it defeated. Instead of telling advertisers, "if you want to advertise on KZfaq, respect it's freedom platform." They turn their heads toward the creators and said "if you want to create then respect our advertisers." Instead of defending the creators, in the name of money, it defended it's advertisers. What a complete reversal. I guess eventually, money wins. Who will stand for freedom?

I just do videos about my kids and I playing claw machines in the arcade. I don't have anything other than super family friendly content yet video after video gets flagged. I don't have any issue with KZfaq policing their platform, I have a problem with the fact that they have an EVERYONE is GUILTY until proven innocent policy. I would like to see every channel with a million subs or more make their channels private for 48 hours in protest. I wonder if that would force change? Tiny KZfaqrs like myself have no voice and no hope as it stands right now.

I love Casey and his channel but he is not one to listen to on this issue. He can't be objective. KZfaq has their favorites and Casey is one of them. He is more like a KZfaq employee at this point than a contractor like other creators.

Then listen to the others. He did say he would link others talking about this. Some good ones are from Philip Defranco and GradeAUnderA.
@Arian5458 жыл бұрын
He is right though, you're not entitled to money simply because you make videos, and youtube do have the right to take away your monetisation if they see fit. So there is objectively nothing wrong with having rules, the problems is like he said a) the rules are vague, and b) they are enforced by an algorithm. If you harass people, and constantly express hateful ideas, it is within a company's right to not want to be associated with that brand.
@kikiam78508 жыл бұрын
But KZfaq is a community and like everyone in the community he has the right to speak his mind and concerns. Makes more sense too since he's a favorite, which gives the community an opportunity for KZfaq to hear their concerns

Thanks, for key insights, Casey! I just started making videos a week ago then got AdSense working and figured out how to monetize, so I'm trying to learn all I can and your thoughts are a blessing! I never knew how big the KZfaq universe really was, and all the opportunity that existed, but this De-monetization may have to play itself out, to see the real long term effects. I know for myself, I decided I was going to begin living in front of the camera for the pure joy of giving my LIFESTORY a platform to encourage others and inspire us all to live life to the fullest. I love the fact that my Life can be a Story that others around the world can be a part of...and I will continue to journey with this V-log life adventure, even if I have no monetary gains resulting...and from what I see in your lifestory from your videos, you love the Vlog life as well!

@peterbugala37288 жыл бұрын
It's not a monopoly, the problem is that not many platforms are able to acquire a audience. There are probably thousands of youtube like platforms, they just fail to draw a audience, whether its from web design or something else.
@rayhanes13478 жыл бұрын
It's only a monopoly because of us. We'd all have to collectively leave and never come back in order for KZfaq to hurt. It's that simple. That have a monopoly for sure.
@poofy01218 жыл бұрын
lol @ monopoly. you do realize youtube is operating at a LOSS right? Meaning the company is not profitable. That is the reason their is no other service like youtube, because it's a not a business that is profitable. What other service allows you to just sign up with an account, and start dumping thousands of gigabytes of content for free. On top of that, if people actually watch all of that content you are storing FOR FREE, they will pay YOU money. It boggles my mind how entitled people are these days.
@nermket48498 жыл бұрын
minds.com has a nice look. As someone else -- and many others -- said, it's just an audience problem. If you're a small channel trying to grow, it really won't matter what platform you use, because you'll have to grow an audience anyways.

It's more frustrating for us non favored KZfaqr's Casey. As a small channel in a small niche, KZfaq offers me no help at all in any way. I had a competitor advertising on my videos in such ways that I had to basically block all ads related to my subject matter. Now I earn nothing. When I asked KZfaq for help in blocking just ONE same industry advertiser from my channel who competes with me they offered no help at all forcing me to pretty much close down most ads related to my video subject matter. My channel simply is not big enough for them to give me any attention. So what happens? We both lose. They lose great advertising options and I lose all my revenue. That does not seem in the best interest of the KZfaq community at all. KZfaq is dead for the most of us as far as earning money. Today you need subject matter that is popular to the masses and not just to a small group of people. So now I use my videos to sell product and make my money that way. Can't earn anything from all the views I get from KZfaq directly, that's for sure. I have to sell actual product using the videos as traffic drivers only. Come get some Catspit~!

Oh man! I subbed from your channel around 2011. Now, I do screen printing as a business. It saddens me that you don't earn from YT. I mean, I have no interest in growing a channel to earn but to think that you're posting tons of screen printing tips and tutorials for free, you deserve to get paid.

as a software architect/engineer, i gave a talk in italy not long ago where i covered how youtube's algorithms are massively disrespectful of human creators. a google engineer was present and the consensus was agreement with me. i have since studied google more deeply and learned that since the beginning they had little interest in money or in humans - they primarily sought to create a giant AI system. basically, google exploits and just puts up the facade of being of service. truth is paramount.

My reaction to the new monitasion rules, at first I was frustrated but after giving it more thought for a few days and watching other creators thoughts and learning the specifics, I see it from a different perspective now. Now I am more motivated after learning about the reasons behind their change. So now I have been thinking more about doing whatever I need to do to build my channel. I haven't put up very many videos and I'll be first to admit that I haven't put forward a lot of effort as far as creativity. I have 4 channels altogether. 1 is for the jewelry we make ( I will build on that one too.) 1 has my pet pythons, ( I have the most number of videos there.), The other is horseback riding in the desert , I think I did a good job with the last 2 but I've pretty much abandoned them. Haven't added anything to them in years. So I am thinking of closing those down and one by one uploading the old videos on North to Hope. Do a "Throwback Thursday" or something. I also have old video clips buried in my PC I could edit and upload. I also plan to make better thumb nails for the few videos I do have and maybe even re edit some of them. I am home full time now so I have time to make it a part time job. I don't expect to make enough to pay the bills but hope to build it enough to make enough to feed our animals and maybe get a better camera and wireless mic. I would love a wireless mic someday!. WHatever happens I enjoy making videos and having them to pass down for my great grandchildren.

KZfaq has grown alot without these rules. I don't see why they want to tighten things up even more. if advertisers want to pay youtube to display ads on videos then they're going to do that regardless. The VIEWERS that bring everybody money don't even care about being "advertiser friendly" they watch the videos with the ads anyway.

Possibly the best response I've seen to this issue. Being someone who works in advertising, I've seen this happen with so many publishers/media owners. When advertisers pack a tanty, they nuke their offering because an initial blanket ban that pisses off creators/users is cheaper than losing money from advertising in the long run. It's sad, but until people are willing to pay for online services, advertisers will always have the final say.

who cares, youtubers are the most overpaid people on earth. do those advertisers even realize people have ad block or skip the ad in 5 seconds?
@mitcHELLOworld8 жыл бұрын
Do you realize the content creator doesn't get paid for views of people with an adblocker... so if you watch your favorite youtuber with an adblocker on, you are screwing them over. And no, youtubers are not the most overpaid people on earth. Casey brings some of the most entertaining content on this website and you get to view it for free every single day. He deserves every penny he makes. Get the stick out of your butt and show some support :)

Yes some people skip, some don't and we get paid for "watched" videos not videos a family member clicks on all day long to get "views" so a video can have 1m views but Google can tell you which are real views

KZfaqrs deserve their pennies if they have that mass of audience, they put in efforts and creativity, they make good videos like shows we watch on TV but often without a crew, & I appreciate creators like Casey who create original contents. Amazon has the same issues with vendor loyalty and algorithm policing. The problem is that some crap is allowed through and to soar to the top of the charts while other, more legit work gets punished. There are always ways to manipulate algorithms and the policing isn't uniform. To top it off, they also don't communicate very well and make serious pay changes without warning. A lot of people have started looking elsewhere and hoping for more competition against Amazon because they're loyalty has already been lost. I hope these big companies can start listening to the people who create the content that they make money from and take our concerns seriously.

A 2 min trailer impacting everyone & must see by all: www.abillionlives.com OR #abillionlives Talk about censorship, overreach, just.. wrong! When people should be thankful, appreciative.. even if just for the cleaner (NON deadly) air their families are no longer being forced exposure to?! Nope.. Of course govt, media, FDA, etc.. ALL losing a f***ton of money in cig sales because of... have been putting out garbage claims/scare-tactics; hoping people have no common sense & will believe their BS. That they can even do this is.. phew.. be afraid be VERY afraid! I am! =/ Not sure what happened to right/wrong, truth, fact/science/proof, freedom of speech, etc.. ALL out the window. Even worse imho= 2 days after North American premier of that movie was shown in Milw, WI.. coincidentally, FDA deeming regs went into effect: 8/8/2016= classifying any/everything related to vaping/e-cigs/liquids.. as a "tobacco product" (even tho... NO tobacco?!? Even stuff nicotine-FREE) Even if studies PROVE it's at least 95% better & healthier than smoking (which should be obvious, but still) & has killed, well.. NO one. Not 1, zip, zilch, nada. Not last yr, year before OR 10 prior to... while cigs/smoking takes the life of over half a million every year in US. Plus, even tho they've done nothing to get rid of what they already know to be killing SO many... poss even you, spouse, KIDS (>165,000 children die every yr in US.. just from 2nd hand 'cig' smoke! =o craaazy right!) Yet now, people are forbidden from saying any of that, if you're at all "in the business". Can't say safer, healthier, better than.. talk about study. Nope, banned, taxed, nothing new can be introduced to market as of 8/8 & unless/until fda approves via lengthy & $$$ process (like >$1mil per item) People need to know about this insane ruling & regs somehow passed!! ALL to keep big tobacco, big pharma.. chemo clinics.... drug makers & addictive tobacco cigarettes... on the marke & profitable! Creating revenue & grabbing $$$ from wherever they CAN!!! Just because... wow... mind.. blowing! That the almighty dollar is being so blatantly & in our faces put ahead of SO many human lives time & time again..... frankly, idk how the hell any of 'em sleep at night anymore!!! Sickening to say the least!!! =/ LIVE LONG(er).... VAPE ON! (I.... Why don't they just leave it up to the ADVERTISER?
@oliverkavanagh80808 жыл бұрын
+Yvonne Golden the ADVERTISER won't be aware what platforms their advertisements will be shown on. They most likely go through an agency, who then uses google, or the advertisers will go to google direct.
@SimonWakefieldUK8 жыл бұрын
They do leave it to the advertisers. It's the advertisers who demand such restrictions not just on KZfaq but also things like banner ads on websites. When a company is buying ads using the 'ad network' model they don't really know where their ads will end up as they are targeting users rather than sites or channels and as such they want highly restrictive guidelines on what content is allowed to deploy ads from the ad networks as they don't want there brand to be damaged through association when they had no direct control on where their ad would be shown. As this model is designed to be low cost for the advertisers, easy entry for the content creators and low margins for ad network there just isn't really the money in it especially when so many channels use it to do a more hands on job of targeting ads to videos that are relevant to the video and which the advertiser is happy with being associated with.

It’s sad that a year later, so many people have been affected by the “advertiser friendly” BS. People used to make this a full time job, but after the rules changed people were left in a lerch. I gave up on my one channel on KZfaq because it was not making a cent! And that was more than over a year ago - then recently I got an email (backdated probably) informing me that my content was being de-monetized. So what must I do now? I have already abandoned that channel and moved on. Should I now rewind, jump through hoops and hope that the decision is reversed? Seriously? NO WAY! That project has been mothballed and to resurrect it will take valuable time which I will have to take from more profitable projects. Don't think so! That is not to say that I am totally giving up on KZfaq, I'm not! All I am doing is moving the monetization aspect off of KZfaq to a place that I control. (well, more or less anyway) That is having 2 consequences: 1) I am in control of the monetization of my work. 2) KZfaq does not have a share in that monetization. And although my public reach (for a niche video content product) is not as great as it would be if KZfaq were the primary, at least I (and many others like me I dare say) are getting a part of a smaller income in general as opposed to no part of a much larger non-income. Back in the day server storage and bandwidth was very expensive so hosting large formats (like videos) on KZfaq made sense. When they figured out the monetization model, everybody with any sense went KZfaq. BUT today the hosting costs have dropped dramatically so although it is super easy to use KZfaq, why bother if some arbitrary algorithm is making decisions about your earnings based on who knows what? If KZfaq carry on down this path, all the many people who create quality videos will either stop because they will have to get a regular "9 to 5" or will go independent where they live or die by their own efforts. Just take a look at some of the quality Indy films as an example! And KZfaq will be relegated to content that is mostly out of focus, badly framed smart phone footage of kittens and the like. Lets see how the KZfaq advertisers react to that! Once again, bean-counters and their greed are busy destroying something very good!
@Jo-lf5ew7 жыл бұрын
KZfaq is to valuable for companies to pull their Ads from so it's absolutely ridiculous that they would need to censor youtube content creators on behalf of the ad agency....they hold all the power and the companies get exposure.
