Much simpler times. Dial phones, push button cash registers, simple weather graphics, video camera (mini cam) was relatively new. I was 15 years old and had a great time exploring the streets, hitching cars and ups trucks, throwing snow balls at busses,even ice skating in the streets when they froze over. As a kid it was fun.

$30 an hour in 1978 would be $135 an hour today! I would of bought a jeep asap. Wow! Thanks for the upload so cool!

I remember the blizzard of '78. I was only 3 but I remember not being able to leave the house for about a week. 6 to 8 inches of snow and the wind gusts caused snow drifts. Our front door was snowed in. Couldn't even get off the back porch. I just settled in and watched TV. I think I watched replays of Captain Kangaroo!!!!!

Back then a journalist whether at a TV station or newspaper, his main concern was getting to work so they could inform the public. They were really dedicated.

Thanks for sharing this clip. WBGU-TV also did a documentary of the great blizzard of 1978. It's available at the library and probably on YT as well.

I remember watching this newscast as a kid thinking...well I guess they were snowed in at the station, as they couldn't go home and change clothes. :)

A week later New England got its own epic blizzard. 78 was a scary, scary winter to state the obvious.

I went to leave for work that morning and my dad asked me where the hell I thought I was going. I said to work. He laughed at me. When I opened the kitchen door to the driveway and saw a solid wall of snow, my plans changed immediately.

How did you shovel out the tunnel? What did you do with the snow you shoveled out? I remember that many sewer pipes were frozen, and even if they weren't they were still in no condition to pour water down the drain indefinitely.

I was 10 years old at the time... I remember watching this very broadcast. Seems like yesterday. School was closed for 2 weeks... it took that long to replace all the broken water pipes.

I was 10 at the time, too. We were watching from our snowed-in "bunker" in Port Clinton, OH. Absolutely a show-stopper.

16 years old, had to pick up my Dad , snow banks above the car, car slid all over the place, I was the only one on the road err packed snow, (no road in sight), enjoyed it very much. At one time realized that I was driving in a corn field as the road wasn't in sight, due to drifting... either way the snow was too deep to drive on the road hehe :)

why does everyone think of french toast during a snow storm?? egg milk and bread
@newstarcadefan3 жыл бұрын
I never understood that. That milk, eggs, and bread would have to had been used within a very short time, or they'll go bad.

Looks like the man who's filling up the mobile unit van. I'm sure it was definitely out of fuel. How will they get back to the TV station when they're out of fuel?
@bradbyington66627 жыл бұрын
The mobile unit van is unstoppable. An absolute force in media. ;)
