As a girl that likes cute-looking tech this is the first emulation handheld that has truly caught my eye, and the fact that it’s easy to use right out of the box is also awesome. If they ever make a second version of this handheld I’ll get it, just cause I never like getting version one of ANYTHING 😅

I got my unit and it had huge light bleed, but I am not a famous youtuber so when I approached Anbernic to ask for a replacement they said no. They also replied to me that IPS screens are like this and will mostly have some light bleed.

What was happening with SNES games initially there was probably the emulator defaulting to the SNES' internal 8:7 aspect ratio. Many people don't know this, but the Super Nintendo was not actually natively 4:3, instead, it used a taller, almost square 8:7 aspect ratio that gets squished by 4:3 displays. So, if you want don't want as much letterboxing and a bigger display size, you can probably leave the aspect ratio as is because it's not actually stretched.

hey, the triggers are definitely analog. you can confirm this in the included gamepad tester app. it has a graphic that shows the analog triggers tracking to 100% pressed down. that said, i was also unable to get dolphin to pick that input up at all as for PS2, i’ve had great performance so far, tho i’m using emulation station launching Aether in standalone. Hulk Ultimate Destructions runs perfectly

Hey they fixed the light bleed issue on his unit. That’s kinda scummy. If you’re sending a unit for KZfaqrs to advertise for you it should be the actual product you’re selling. Not a better product that you aren’t selling but looks mostly the same. I don’t even care about the light bleed That much, it’s just the principle of the thing.

To get the analog triggers to work you have to switch the controller mode to Xbox, I don't know why anbernic hasn't fixed it but it was the same issue with the 556. Great video as always.

Well, the RGB30 is actually the same exact square screen (not even same size, it’s literally the exact same screen panel from the same manufacturer), it’s just got a bit of a chin for the bottom screen bezel.

i wasnt sold on the 1:1 screen idea, but now i can see the potential, ds and 3ds fits surprisingly well on it. As long as it has a decent resolution and size, i can see this screen becoming more common.

All I really want from months ago is a RP4 with left stick on top... But aside from the square screen gimmick, this one is commendable. The price is very competitive and the RGB is a very nice touch.

Its just a wii and gamecube scenario, where basically the wii is basically a gamecube but with kaioken from dragon ball. What I mean is like the RG405V and the RG Cube are literally the same but with a slight boost.

10:10 Try setting the triggers to "Both", I suspect that's the issue, if it's not set to "both" it'll only work as either a trigger or a button (whatever's selected), and some games just don't work when the trigger's are selected as the "wrong" one.

should have had more DS footage. that aspect ratio looks great for it and we got to behold the glory for all of 5 seconds.

Still waiting for an emulation device with 6 face buttons that have like a screen or something behind them to change the labels for optimal Sega and N64 play experience

I bought one a few hours after they released it and my screen looks fine, no bleed whatsoever. Seems like a case by case basis.

I want one of these so bad. 1:1 aspect ratio displays are cool. I love it on my RGB30. Would love that but more powerful. I think if I got one, I'd use it solely for GameCube, Wii, and DS/3DS and leave the GB family, SNES, etc. for my RG35XXSP. Gonna wait for a potential sale and the 2nd batch so I don't get the bad screen though.

We need an Android flip console with a large 4:3 screen, like 7 inches, with a mini version of 6 perhaps. 7 inches in 4:3, for example, allows a 6.5 inch 16:9, while a 7 inch 16:9 screen only allows 5.7 in 4:3. Another point is that a 4:3 flip allows for a smaller size, in this 7 inch example it would only need approximately 16cm, it still fits in your pocket... if it is a 6 inch version then around 14cm. Taki Udon made a video explaining a possibil fix for the light bleed. In fact he's the first KZfaqr I watched that even mentioned the light bleed.

Btw for gameboy and gameboy advance I recommend going to scalefx and try to get a filter that basically makes the pixels look like balls.

I wished they updated the SNES controller version, that thing is easily my favorite form factor of ANY OF THESE. Next being the Retroid FLIP with a 8gen2/3 would be awesome. Clearly Anbernic/Retroid/Ayn are all the same company so do it guys.

I started with an ROG Ally, great device but it's huge. Now I'm waiting for my rg35xxsp. Now i feel like i need this. I'm getting hooked.

The design gives me Gizmondo vibes, I like it. The screen is a pretty useful aspect ratio and the performance is pretty good, definitely a good different in this case.

every year we get closer to the portable console of my dreams. I dont mind waiting a few more years until that happens.

For the triggers to register as analogue don't you need to set the controller type to Xbox not NS?

im really new to these handhelds, is it safe to play while charging like the nintendo switch or will that damage the battery? I only ask because i've seen a few videos saying the play time can be as low as 2 hours with more demanding games so i was planning on having it plugged in for long play sessions

1:1 screens are the way to go for retro handhelds, it just makes so much sense for multi-system devices, when I finally see a handheld with an OLED 6 inch 1:1 display, I'll jump on it, 6 inches would mean nice real-estate sizes for pretty much any aspect, even stacked DS/3DS displays, I suppose the ultimate handheld would consist of a 7-8 inch 1:1 SAMOLED with up to 120Hz, 500+ PPI, an FPGA+ARM hybrid SoC plus a healthy pool of SRAM & SDRAM, a good Wolfson DAC & HP-AMP (32ohm), a fat 5watt single speaker (much better than dual 2watt speakers), and hall effect analogies/triggers, micro-switch buttons and bumpers, and a hybrid 4/8-Way switchable D-Pad (toggle between rollable 8-way mode & 4-way micro-switch mode), the FPGA would be for low latency systems up to 5th gen, the ARM for everything else, the FPGA can be used as an I/O processor when using the ARM CPU, for audio processing and video DAC duties including scaling and shaders/scanlines/etc, that would be the crem'da'la'crem handheld, I'd use Replay OS using the FPGA for really accurate CRT emulation in conjunction with DynaRes 2.0.

I just received mine today. It’s safe to say the screen looks good. Very impressed. I might pick up another color. The white with the rainbow buttons awesome! 😊

I have basically no use case for this but for some reason I just find the design irresistibly charming and really want one lol. I think I'll hold off until Anbernic does a revision though, or it's confirmed that future batches are fully fixed with the light bleed issue.

I heard that the battery life is pretty bad for the retroid pocket 4 pro and that it has a lot of battery drain. How is the battery drain for this one?

Hey bob for the analogue triggers, when you showed the screen that allowed you to switch from Ns and Xbox style controls I saw that there was a separate part for triggers. Since the switch doesn’t use analogue triggers and xbox does, maybe try opting in for the xbox trigger option? Idk i don’t have the device just my guess to get analog support

If this was a little bit more powerful to run GC, PS2 and 3ds more comfortably, it would be the perfect small mid range device.

For SNES, try using a 'sharp-bilinear-simple' shader to fill out the whole screen in 4:3. It will give you balanced pixels with only a slight reduction in sharpness.

Is the overlay just boarders or does it add a filter? Can i add a crt filter?

Did you have it on NS mode while playing GC? Cause remember joycons don't have analog r2l2, so maybe that's the issue why dolphin didn't detect analog input?

The RG Cube should be buffed in size to be good enough to have good triggers.

Pico-8 through Winlator works really perfectly on this.

I think I like this not just because of the upgrade in hardware compared to the RGB30, but those ergonomics! Member of the big hand club here, and that brick is not the best after a few hours.

I would love a version of this which ran Linux so I could run Pico8 and Portmaster on it. But the ergonomics of this are really appealing to me as someone who’s hand cramp up after too much play.

also, the more i play on my Switch, the more i appreciate that everyone else adds the Bumps so you can have extra grip, still baffles me that the only time Nintendo tried it was for the Wii U Gamepad

If this also supported SIM cards it would replace my phone instantly. I do miss the out-of-the-box 2000s phone designs sometimes.
