Wurkkos HD50 Video Transcript
General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
• This is one beast of a headlamp! 4000 lumens and three different beam modes. I've used this headlamp for a week now and I'm impressed at how much value you get at this price point.
• What you get in the box: 21700 cell, manual, headband
• Comparison with HD15, HD20. The build quality of the HD50 stands out when compared to the other two - the anodizing and machining feel higher quality.
Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
• The machining is excellent, especially at this price point. The anodizing is even better - matt black and grippy. Reminds me of the anodizing on my TD01C. Operated by two buttons - one turns the light on and off, and the other cycles between modes. They are made of rubber and require a firm press to activate the switch.
• Come with an adjustable headband. Easier to install and remove due to the design of the cutouts. I like that you can swivel it around easily too. If you remove the light, you can use it as a general work light or even EDC it.
• The light takes a 21700 cell (wurkkos branded) and unscrews from one end. I noticed the wall of the battery tube is thicker on one end? Other users have noted the same design on their model. Magnetic tail.
• Three LEDs/beams. Middle houses an XHP50.3HI (5700-6000K) for maximum throw, OP reflector probably to reduce beam artefacts. Two frosted TIR lenses housing LH351D (5000K, 90CRI) and Latticepower XG 660nm. There is a vibration feature that alerts you when the battery has been inserted the wrong way around, or battery voltage drops too low.
UI - modes
• Press the power button to turn it on (remembers the last mode). Press the switch button to cycle between modes (spotlight, floodlight, spot+flood, red). Press and hold either button to cycle between LMH. Double press in each mode for turbo.
• From OFF - long press either button for moonlight.
• Press both buttons to lock/unlock.
Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• Ceiling bounce test, CCT, CRI.
• Very throwy when using center beam but no ringiness. The other two LEDs produce nice floody beams, very practical for up close work or walking.
Considerations
• Gets hot in high/turbo mode when used for long durations. The headband insulates the light if you're wearing it on your head. A buck driver would have been ideal in this light.
• Large - while it's one of the 'smaller' 21700 headlamps out there, this is certainly chunkier than most of my other headlamps. With that said, it's surprisingly comfortable on my head.
Verdict
One of the best-value multi-LED headlamps out there. Most headlamps come with one LED, which is suited for short-range activities. The throw on the XHP50.3HI is incredible, especially considering how small the reflector is in this headlamp. Probably my favorite out of all the Wurkkos headlamps I've reviewed so far. If you're looking for a well-priced headlamp and work light, I'd recommend it.

I have that one, and it's my favorite headlamp. The 3 different emitters & the beam patterns they offer make this a perfect all-around headlamp. Yes, it weighs more than an 18650 or smaller size headlamp, but the headband does a good job and distributes the weight well. If you have ever worn a helmet 🪖 this is nothing. The only thing I think they could improve upon is the two switches system. Combine them into one switch. If they can't do that, make the two switches feel different to the touch, like maybe one larger or square instead of both round and near each other. Remember, you activate these things up on your head, by feel. Other than those minor improvements, I think it's a great headlamp. Also, because the tailcap is magnetic, you can attach another small flashlight to it for more close-up illumination. Most flashlights have a metal pocket clip that holds the light. It's not strong enough for jogging, but I don't do jogging,...walking, but not jogging 😅.

I like the buttons they used on the HD15/20 as they're less mushy and larger. Guess it was hard given the smaller size of this light. It's one of my fav headlamps too, I especially like the red LED.

My Olight Perun 2 mini is perfect for jogging. I also do windsprints with it at night and the silicone strap that holds it in place is stout! 💯👌🏼😎

I don't see why you need to feel different, because one button is on the right ones on the left. As soon as you're used to it, you should know right for power left for switch mode. I wish the turning on the light with the switch button went to the red mode...

@bjfire01 that's true. After using the headlamp for a while, you get to know where the buttons are. It's a minor criticism of the headlamp because there isn't much to criticize about it. It's my favorite headlamp because I love the beam patterns & long runtimes.

Yes... A buck driver would be ideal. To offer it for this price though, there has to be a compromise somewhere. But good to see they did it with the TD01C. Maybe something for the future. Most wouldn't mind paying an extra $5.

@DarrenYeoYT Yes, I wanted this to replace my aging Nitecore HC90 but that's the last time I'm buying a poorly regulated headlamp. It got so hot during summers and the runtime was all over the place. I also have an old Skilhunt H03 but that doesn't have a red emitter and no type C charging. Why is it so hard to find a properly regulated headlamp with a good red emitter and that is not over engineered? I don't like carrying magnetic cables around so Skilhunt, Armytek and Olight are out. I don't like not having a usb C port so Zebralight and Emisar are out. Cyansky has the HS6R but I don't like the proprietary metal clip on the headband. Others either have a crappy red led or non at all and then there are those non-removable batteries. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, I agree. I would pay more with a constant current unit and let Wurkkos know this too.

Constant current is dangerous, if it gets too hot the light will break or even worse catch fire.

@DarrenYeoYT
@DarrenYeoYT Ай бұрын
Yeah should be fine, the light will pull as many amps is necessary. Just keep an eye on how warm the light is while charging, if it gets super hot, take it off. The battery shouldn't exceed 50 Celcius.

Got it coupla mths back cos I bought into the most lumens per dollar as a pure headlamp atleast. Well made with good UI, decent throw & flood. Cons are its weight & mediore quality head strap. I use it exlusive as my winter nightwalks headlamp as a toque helps to alleviated some of the heaviness. For indoors & general use, I still much prefer the Wuben e7 as its almost the perfect headlight for lumens, weight & comfort. HD50 is alot of light for the money tho

Yeah you're right... Bang for buck it puts out tons of lumens for very little. A regulated driver would be nice but I didn't expect it at this price.

Both my Nitecore and OLighte have that notch cut into the battery tube. Thermal expansion I think.

So do they meet their 4000 lumen claim? How close do they get? And how close after 30 seconds?
@DarrenYeoYT
@DarrenYeoYT 2 ай бұрын
Cant verify as I don't have a lumen tube. I'd say it gets close, or reaches it, especially with a good quality 21700 cell. But it's not going to last long, too hot on turbo. Might have to go check on BLF to see if anyone's done a detailed runtime test.
