** The inside of these pianos do have high voltages and can be dangerous. **
** This video is not a repair guide. **
After a short period of non being played, I turned on my Wurltizer 200a piano there was aloud pop. The sound of the piano then was very distorted - it had a warm quality to it....but it was far from the sounds it should make.
Thankfully the amp had only blown a fuse, so it wasn't too hard to change, though required some soldering. The reeds are surrounded by a high voltage bar. When a fuse does go there is often a reason for it. In my case I suspect that dust had caused a fuse to blow. As once the fuse was replaced, there was a high pitched squeal noise. Pressing the keys gently allowed the location of the dust to be identified.
This allowed my piano to play and sound as it should - my on camera mic doesn't do it justice at the end - it seems to have added some distortion - which is disappointed.
