I think we should stop talking about games like WuWa as "genshin killer" type of game and more talk about them as "genshin competitor" type of game. I'll be honest, I wasn't feeling Wuthering Waves the first few days I played it, but the more I played the more I started to enjoy it. I don't give a damn about the story, I skipped the entire thing. I also feel like this game lacks polish. The combat is fun and traversing the world is my favorite part. I'll have to see in a month or so from now if I will still enjoy the game or will I find it annoying and tedious. The main reason why I stopped playing Genshin one month after its release is because the game was too active-play for me and some of the tasks ended up becoming a chore to do. The main reason why Star Rail has kept me playing is because the auto battle. As crappy as it may be sometimes, I can just let it run and go do something else.

I think like u said, their fun part IS the exploration. Main story is decent, everything else if either decent and ok (this is not including any bugs), the combat is great, BUT the explorationnn, there are soo many things to find, it's really fun. Especially if people don't look up guide maps and whatnot, just randomly wandering around

There is gradiance to copying. I can play Genshin, however when I move over to BotW I won't be able to play it blind and vice versa. Genshin takes a lot of inspiration from a lot of different places however they give it their own twist. I've played WW even bought the first BP because I like PGR. However, when I first loaded into the game I IMMEDIATLY knew the entire menu, how progression is going to work and even some puzzles on the map. They have anemoculy that you *need* to farm with almost the exact same hand-in menu at that guy with the robot as Genshin at the Staues of the Seven. Heck, when I encountered my first stalagmite thing (the one you bring the fireflies/sele to to light it up) I KNEW immediately that I had to bring out my Sensor and it would lead me to the nearest firefly/sele because that's how elemental vision in GI works. So yes, GI copied a few things. But WW did the same thing, to a larger degree, and didn't do anything to make it "their own". The only thing I can think of is the Grapple, and while somewhat nice the CD on it is too long for open world exploration and grappling points are rather sparse.

Even if you visually deny the videos you can LISTEN to opening menu, UI, cooking treasure, dungeon, music of Genshin 1.0 to BOTW, not to mention hillichurls are straight ripped even the camps, archer towers, sounds, them dancing, attacks, weapons and body type. Insane.

So the VA shiat, turns out it was because Kuro Games partnered up with a studio in London so a majority of the VAs we would have loved to be in WuWa wouldn't have been able to actually participate. That's why there was a doodoo ton of British VAs

@squiggly4011 it would be good yes.....if the voices didn't clash. If it was an all British cast then it would feel more cohesive and not random. All (I think) playable characters have a regular American English accent and then there's the NPCs that sound British. It's not a bad thing, it's just inconsistent. It's already bad enough that a majority of the English voices don't sound good to begin with and now there's inconsistencies with the NPCs. It's a silly mess but one I can deal with I guess

Tbh, game did everything that I thought Genshin needed for me to enjoy playing it. Enjoyable overworld, fun side quests, actual combat, stamina not being an artificial handicap on how much you explore. I also like the artstyle a lot more. THAT SAID; I was hoping they had better QoL than Hoyo could offer, and they don’t. Kuro never had that. I’ll let it sit and see if that changes, recent JP stuff really sucks.

There's many good thing about this game but English VA and the current story are NOT one of them. The pacing is totally what ruined the story in the game for me. It literally felt like those amateur moviemakers who kept trying to recreate the magic brought by Avengers endgame without proper buildup. I felt totally empty at the scene where everyone gathers and defend Jinzhou. Did the writer actually expect me to care about these bunch of characters that i barely know?? They even LITERALLY drop 2 new characters in the final Act, when i first saw them i thought to myself. Who the F is these guys and why should i care?? Suddenly lady Jinshi appear outta nowhere and SanHua nowhere to be found. We go from meeting general Jiyan for the first time to killed the last boss with him in a span of 30 minutes ffs! And they even dare to try to do a "sacrifice" scene with YangYang and JianXin, like dude i barely effin know that random monk lady. It just a clusterfuck of too many characters forced into a very badly paced story.

I hate how the world now just thinks if a game is in a certain genre that isn’t used much it’s considered copying, why isn’t Valorant and over watch being called out for this. Why is call of duty not being shammed for having a Fortnite gamemode. Why is Genshin not called out for being directly taken from breath of the wild.

thats not a question of genre. the reason why it is copying is not the genre. you see, the question is just how MUCH difference there is between two "different" games. and when you play WuWa and some other games of this "genre" you can easily see the issue. all the core mechanics and numbers are exactly or almost exactly the same. pulls cost the same, achievements give the same amount of gems, tutorials give the same amount of gems, there is an equivalent of starglitter in the game, it costs the same to get pulls with it, you get basically almost the same amount of pulls from it monthly. quests have very similar rewards. there is a very similar adventure rank system, all with similar rewards. there is also a skill and a charging burst, there are upgradable talents, artifacts, constellations, etc etc etc. this is NOT just the same genre. this is COPYING all the core structure of genshin, except for some combat details and basically textures. and you know what, I would be fine with that if the system that genshin has was any good. but it is not. the numbers that genshin has in its core gacha system and the system itself is not good. and that's why I don't want to see and play games that copy exactly that. one things that saves genshin is design and looks. literally the way how characters and their skill and the world looks. that's what makes genshin at least partially viable. the other thing that made it viable is that it was the first gacha game in its kind, and despite copying some mechanics of zelda, it is essentially a different game in itself. WuWa, on the other hand, doesnt have this advantage. its world, characters and combat looks dull compared to genshin. in fact, i would argue that combat in WuWa is essentially not bad, it could be actually better than in genshin, but the fact that it just looks kinda gray and dull kills it for me. yes, there is a bit more action in it, but that's just not it

all of the games you mentioned do get shit on, OW and valorant get shit for being TF2 copies, league of legends gets shit for being a dota clone, shooters constantly get shat on, before all of that, there used to be a lot of "wow-clones" and "wow killers". newer games of a currently popular genre, will always be compared to the most popular one, or the one that popularized a genre (dota from wc3 didn't start the moba genre, but it massively popularized it)

@@woahitsfranco5286 i don't think it's particularly intelligent myself, especially when comparing league to dota, or other moba games (hon, smite etc.), they all have unique ideas, or are mechanically different (one very obvious difference between dota and lol is turn rate, dota champs take a second to turn around, while league doesn't have turn rate), but i was pointing out to the OP that these comparisons have always been made, and will always be made

I deadass agree with most of these takes. I quit Genshin a year ago and only after playing WUWA and it being so bad to get me to retry Genshin again and do the Fontaine archons quests are like. night and day to me. This game NEEDED more development time in the oven and I’m disappointed in seeing people treat the “free compensation” for the issues as a benefit when most of these things shouldn’t be in the game at all. They aren’t giving them away because they’re being nice, they’re doing it because they NEED people to stay on the game otherwise this project would have been a waste of time. That really saddens me as the combat and locations look amazing but man… its just disappointing.

Regarding battle passes for those who played pgr or most mobile games that had one The battle pass always had simmilar patterns and UI So i cant quite see the issue here Since everyone does the same why it needs to be a problem now? Also idgaf about haram like why are you even playing gacha games who's the main mechanic is spending your money for 2d/3d characters for designs/personality/etc Blud havent seen games like azurlane who litteraly showed their nether regions to the screen the second you got into the game

I actually find it interesting that people are detracting from the game with it being similar to Genshin. The whole hope/desire for WuWa for me was make Genshin but with better and more combat focused design choices. They also seem to be a much more communicative company, but I think most Gachas are pretty talkative during their launch, so we'll see how that holds long term, but it's a very promising start and probably the wamest(?) welcome I've felt to a gacha game with the additional free five star.

They are very talkative because it's the launch yes, and also because their game had a million bugs and translation errors that caused a lot of drama in Japan, so of course they have to crisis manage by communicating.

I am not gonna lie It wouldn't anger me as much if he realize that there is another popular series with open world free climbing that plays with the elemental synergies that genshin was already taking a little a lot of inspiration from. I dont get why Genshin can do it but Wuthering cant, but I understand thats a touchy subject.
