Anyone else notice the us army referred to the magazine as a 15 round "clip"? Just FYI for those who get so upset when someone says clip instead of magazine.
@keithsimpson2685
@keithsimpson2685 2 жыл бұрын
They also meant for them to be somewhat disposable introducing the third possibility, using "clip" when a mag is meant to be tossed/dropped as well.

That was the first thing I noticed. When I went to an academy, they made you do a lot of push-ups if you called a magazine a clip. They were quite particular about the distinction.

@@keithsimpson2685 This was a problem in Vietnam when the top brass designed the mags to be disposable, then as a "cost saving measure" said the disposable mags should be reused. That was one of many decisions with the M16 that made an otherwise good rifle perform terribly.

Mag fed, low recoil, small, lightweight rifle made in massive numbers in WW2. All its ammo was non-corrosive and even loaded in magazines almost twice as much ammo for the same weight compared to Garand ammo on clips. I'm gonna say it's the best small arm of WW2, just edging ahead of MP44 as it is lighter, available sooner AND in larger numbers, more easily used while prone, more ammo for a given weight, aperture sights and was far easier to clean and maintain.

I absolutely agree with your evaluation of the M-1 Carbine. It is spot on , including your comparison to the vaunted Sturmgewehr. I have always felt the carbine was a superior weapon to it, and the far superior sights are often overlooked.

I see that this was before the cross-bolt safety was replaced by a rotating switch, and presumably before a bayonet lug was added to the heat shield retaining band

Great video of the time for the boys to Men! Who may haven't ever Held a semi- auto till then. Being an machinist of forty plus Years. A Winchester machinist saved the day by hours to Land the contract to go in production! I now own a very late inland carbine 1945 no mixmaster. Most ever to pay for a rifle to get my hands on true American history! Thanks for the greatest generation for the freedom to type these words! Thanks Carl ol, Southern boy.

@@kingnothing3523 all of them were made in the Michigan at the GM plants they would say IT or ST... they made over 6 million between 1942 and 1945 for World War II.... in front of the receiver it should say U.S. carbine 30 caliber in the late 50s and 60s they cut the receivers in half they call that Demill... if you have one from the 50s or the 60s when you take the receiver apart it should have a line down the middle where they welded it back together again....!!
