During WW2 both the Allies and Axis were experimenting with rocket technology. But the use of rocket artillery would take this innovation in a new direction. In this video we look at the rocket artillery of the Russian Katyusha, German Nebelwerfer, US T-34 Calliope and Japanese Type 4 launcher of WW2.
At Premier History we want to take you on a journey through time and grow your knowledge to see what it was actually like to be in some of the pivotal points in World History.

My favorite is the Russian Katyusha. Simple, relative cheap, brutal for area suppression. Not effective for a smaller targets such as a house and harden structures. Plus like the sound of the name "Katyusha"!

Calliope pronunciation. "CAL". As in low-cal-drink. "EYE" As in eyeball. "O" As in "Oh my!" "PEE" Everyone pees. CAL EYE OH PEE. Pronounced quickly, with one breath. No syllables.

This video would of been way better if you added the unique sounds of each Rocket Launcher, like other video have, covering this topic.

The first Sherman t34 you show is my Grandpa's tank, "Cold Storage" 12th Armored, B/714, 2nd Platoon. He told me they destroyed small towns and villages with the rockets. The photo according to Zaloga was taken March 9th, 1945. The 12th was attached to Patton's 3rd Army on March 17th and spearheaded it's southern flank as they pushed through the Saar-Palatinate to the west bank of the River Rhine. Here is a video where he talks about the Rockets a bit. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n8eigZx6tdzbfJs.html

@@PremierHistory I am proud. I comment anytime I see this photo, hopefully someday I'll meet someone else whose relative was in that tank with him. He never showed me the photo, but I knew their was a photo of his tank that was somewhat well known. I kind of wondered if this was the photo for years, then when I bought Zaloga's "Armored Victory" he states the unit info and the name of the tank, which had always been obscured in pixilated photos , "Cold Storage" which I remember my Grandpa talking about and why it was named that. I enjoyed your videos, keep up the good work!

Germany’s obsession with the aesthetics of everything they produced ended up being their downfall. It’s fine during peace time, but being an idealistic during a war rather than pragmatic is a sure fire way to lose a war.
