Regarding the gun on the StuG III: my understanding is that, in general, for a given caliber, a shorter barreled cannon carries a larger explosive charge (as the walls can be thinner) and therefore is more effective against infantry, emplacements, and the like. It's certainly less effective against armor and has a shorter effective range (and knowing exact range is more important due to a more rainbow trajectory). This is mostly what I've read about the Sherman 75mm vs 76mm (really the same diameter, given different names for clarification): the 75 was better liked as an infantry support gun, the 76 was a better anti-armor gun.

Thank you so much Mr. Doyle for saying "Ausführung" instead of "Ausf.". Being German my toe nails roll up everytime I hear a knowledgeable English/US WW2-expert trying to pronounce a foreign abbreviation. For the same reason, nobody would try to say "HMMWV". Alternatively, "Version" is as good as "Ausführung" for me and most probably easier for all Anglo-Saxons😉 Greetings from Germany!!

If my memory serves me right, each Stug had a company of infantry to support it. So they could do with better visibility, but didn't need it.

1:20 "...the zimmerit was put on 1943 onwards for a period of a year until september of '45..." Ehm... I think you wanted to say september of '44. September of '45 WW 2 in Europe was already over for a few months - same thing math-wise. Freudian mistake I guess.... Edit: It is already mentioned under the video. Just stumbled upon it.

4:21 this fact will trigger all the Tiger/Panther/Ferdinand etc. fanboys; "Inflated", "propaganda", "impossible" and "no Tiger or Panther was ko-ed by a fighter plane". 😂
@typxxilps
@typxxilps Жыл бұрын
sorry, but that must have been obvious if you compare the production figures of the STUG and Tiger and what not: 10.000 versus 1.000 makes it obvious that the mass produced vehicle with the purpose of a defense role knocked more out than the 1.000 mbt of the tiger class which had to go everywhere and in far more risky challenges like a break through while the Hetzer and STUG were simply waiting for their victims in a well prepared defense position or ambush. But the sheere advantage by production volume and its role makes it no surprise. Each tiger and Panther had its own role and doctrine and Ferdinands were also tiny in production volume.
@HauZuah
@HauZuah Жыл бұрын
@@typxxilps The StuG was NOT a defensive weapon - it was an assault gun, used in 'fire brigades' until the wars end. As an example see how heeres-Sturmartillerie-Brigade 249 did around Berlin area in the spring 1945. During the same time, the remaining four Elefants were abandoned by their crews without seeing any action (this vehicle only excelled at open fields of Kursk).

Guess I'll toss the BIG headache of a question into this video. What the heck is Sweden doing with a tank museum?? Especially when they've never fought a war?? I'm sure they've always said no thanks were good. When it came to an angry shot being fired at them. Kinda odd? I'm sure everyone who died would have rather said no thanks! you leaders go fight each other. Best two out of three.I 🤣🤣🤣 God bless.
