CM Punk is an athletic guy, but he's not an elite athlete. When you give him scripts, & tell him what to do, he's among the best, he has a personality for sure, but scripts certainly helped him. I don't know what the general consensus was on his MMA career, but I didn't see that ending well before or during, & after it showed me I was right.. BUT.. and I can't stress this enough, I would not, & 99% of people would not have the determination or courage to get into an octagon, & Mike Jackson obviously showed him far too much respect, because I think it's fair to say that he could've ended that fight at any moment, but it was in Chicago & he decided to let Punk keep face in front of his family & his hometown.. which does show a certain level of disrespect to the sport, but he clearly wasn't thinking that way, he just didn't want to embarrass Punk.

That bullshit Punk stated that he knows Muay Thai in 2006 was a work. Not once in both WWE or UFC has even pulled a Muay Thai stance so he just picked cool word to put himself over. Phil should have just appeared on Dancing With The Stars if he wanted to embarrass himself less.

Agreed. I blame that on Punk. He clearly didn't have the heart. If any trainer sees that in you, they won't push you and treat you with sugar coating. You have to passion to begin with. Otherwise, if you don't care, why should others.
@raulduke6953
@raulduke6953 3 жыл бұрын
@@stephenfox8685 That’s actually more stupid than my last comment. Punk truly put his heart and soul into that , he really believed in himself (nobody could spend 4 years getting tapped and kicked everyday if the didn’t not to mention the cost ) and Trainers live or die by their reputation punk would have been paying for a premium service and he would have paid them 10s of thousands for his final 12 week training camp . To suggest that they didn’t do everything they could to get him as ready as he would ever be especially with a novice who may well have been killed in the octagon with their reputation at stake shows you have never been in that environment and if you have you need to change where you train immediately. His sparring partners were going as hard as they could with him but obviously they would have had to hold back a bit , they were dealing with a novice and word spreads quickly about sparing partners who injure fighters needlessly in training camps . Then they find nobody wants to pay them . He was under no illusion about his level going into that fight , he would have been getting tapped every day for the last 2 years , his best hope was on the feet ,that was the game plan . Rumours spread quick in the community though and Gall knew to take him down immediately. Punk was actually a lot better in his second fight , nowhere near pro level but he was alot more comfortable in there . The reality is that no matter how much heart and training he might of had , he is somebody who wasn’t cut out for the octagon

Those delusions that he could really fight, were born in WWE where his success was just a scripted play, but he started to believe that it was all true. What went wrong is very simple, he had no background in the arts and immediately tried for one of the biggest leagues out there. It takes time to build muscle, power, speed, especially with age. Dont get me wrong I'm not one to comment on age, I've seen people in their old age capable of burying most young folk. Problem is, punk wanted to become a pro in a short amount of time, and no matter how many hours you spend in a gym of already high level fighters going somewhat easy on you, you're still not gonna reach UFC level in just a few years. One could make the argument that due to his age, he felt a sense of urgency and wanted to try it before his age got to him mentally. But ultimately, I respect him for trying and giving it his all and wish him the best. Nobody, can reasonably ask for more.
