I have to disagree. Backlund never lost the belt in 1983. He never submitted and he was never pinned. His manager threw in the towel on his behalf. He regained the belt in 1994 and then lost it to Diesel after a day.

@tomseville2345

Neither was random; Shawn was feuding with Kurt Angle, who challenged Marty to a match to "prove" he could do everything Shawn ever did, but better. Shawn chose to team with Marty as a Rockers reunion on that week's Raw to beat La Resistance, before Marty inevitably lost to Kurt in a good match on SmackDown. And after Miz and Morrison split in 2009, they called each other the "Marty Jannetty" of the team (the member that dips into relative obscurity, where his partner goes on to superstardom). The real Marty was introduced by Snoop Dogg (during the Raw Guest Host era) for a match with Miz, which was really good again...@@Alreezy

Wrestlelamia, I'm surprised you didn't mention the Honky Tonk Man's run during 1996-1998. After his miserable time in WCW, the "Greatest Intercontinental Champion of All-Time" returned to the WWF in 96 as a commentator and a sporadic part-time wrestler. Plus, how could I forget about the time HTM managed "Rockabilly" Billy Gunn? At least "The Road Dogg" Jesse James convinced Billy to turn on HTM to form one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history, The New Age Outlawz.

Animal's heel turn after split with Heidenreich probably should have been something special. Probably was for all I know. Don't think i experienced much of it. It was like the first time he changed his gimmick from being a Road Warrior. I don't have much memory of it. I don't think I was watching much if any WWE at the time. Only memory I have of it was him getting beat on a SD or Raw by Chris Benoit. The little bit I did see of his new character I think it i remember it being really cool He could have at least had a solid mid card reign of terror or something.

Animal didn't entirely come back to help elevate Heidenreich. His return in 2006 was mostly to capitalise on nostalgia, as WWE had been heavily promoting a DVD anthology of the Road Warriors at the time. He was paired with Heidenreich, as due to a Lloyds of London insurance policy cash-in, it meant he wasn't allowed to work anything other than tag team matches. After Heidenreich was released they stuck him with Matt Hardy, before eventually a shorts singles run (it's believed his brother John Lauranaitis helped him get out of the tag only clause) and releasing him. But you probably have done at least 20 names of legends who made pointless comebacks. King Kong Bundy's run in 1994. D'Lo Brown's 2008 return. Tatanka in 2005. Haku in 2001. Scott Steiner in 2002. Shelton Benjamin in 2017. Jim Duggan in 2005. The Dudley Boyz in 2015. Scott Hall in 2002. Jake Roberts in 1996. Take your pick on Marty Jannetty's various returns.

I think the problem with RVD's second run was that it was a limited run. He would only be back for a few months, so essentially, he was used to help fill in the blanks for storylines while he was there or have random matches. So there wasn't a point for him to be back if he was only going to be there for a few months. With Kurt Angle, he was obviously not the same Perc Kurt Angle that can hang with anybody. He was older, cleaner, but also beaten up. He couldn't do all of the things he used to do, especially trying to move at breakneck speed many years prior. Batista's run could've been better if he wasn't pushed to the moon right away. Daniel Bryan was red hot during that year. It's similar to what's going on now with the Rock coming back, but done it in a better way. Cody Rhodes is hot right now. They didn't wait it out to turn the Rock heel or try to make him convince the crowd he's a babyface.
