We can appreciate him now that we, and he himself, are here. Sure, we had our favourites we wanted winning the WWE Championship, or had simply rejected the character the company under Vince McMahon were adamant in serving us (the modern-day Hulk Hogan), but that's the past, and he's a great human, and has earned such elation from us for the legendary status he has achieved in the annals of WWE history.

I mean, I wouldn't say that. Personally I was quite invested in the main event (in fact was telling my brother on our journey home how much more I'm into the main event scene with Roman Reigns at the helm than the years John Cena was top dog; to each their own). Still, that return pop, that surprise appearance, was always going to go over big with the crowd (re: John Cena at the conclusion of MITB 2021). There's absolutely no denying his GOAT status, and his proclamation of "I'm here, to try to bring WrestleMania to London" - exemplifies his understanding of, respect for, and ability to connect with the audience.

I think I'd heard or read somewhere about him being in town, or somewhere in the UK at least. (Update: he's involved in the production of a project filming in London since about May 2023, "Heads of State," with Idris Elba and Priyanka Chopra.) More than anyone linked to WWE, he's someone I think is likelier than most others to make an appearance, schedule permitting. All that said, I was genuinely surprised to hear that oh so familiar tune (maybe not 2008 Royal Rumble entrant #30 surprised, but still), especially given no prior indications or talk of him expected to work SummerSlam.

@@Memonade At this point, I think it has evolved much in the same way as the 'you suck' chants during Kurt Angle's entrances - It is no longer a statement of opinion or a way to show opposition, just a fun thing to do when they enter.

Maybe. Though I think while Angle was admired for his wrestling prowess regardless, given Cena has always been the same person/character, there must be a certain lot that still hold that against him, as they did (and thusly chanted "John Cena sucks") for him in the past.

@@yashraut8758 it is close u dummy they still cheering him even though they are singing John cena sucks at him they are respecting him even he knows that. !
@LexTan10 ай бұрын
In your opinions, sure. But if you take in the crowds, the vast and overwhelming majority of haters have either come to respect what the man has done, and are happy to see him contribute in the ways he still is able to. And those who were kids who idolized Cena are now young adults where they appreciate him for being who he was when they were younger. Not to mention it doesn’t have to be on the level of Angle’s “You Suck”. Both are fun for the fans, the wrestlers love it, and it adds to the experience of watching live pro wrestling/sports entertainment (whatever nomenclature you wish to use). People are having fun cheering and/or booing Cena, so that’s not a bad thing… that’s a good thing! And as for too little, too late, I don’t think so. Whether people loved him or hated him, there was never anyone sitting on their hands for Cena. Every show I’ve seen live in Toronto when Cena wrestled the crowd was deafening when the dueling chants started as soon as the music stopped until the 3 count. So hearing John Cena Sucks as an endearment comes at a time where he earned his keep, despite every shortcoming he’s had.

Sorry, I wouldn't know - I didn't licence the song. In fact, there is a copyright claim on this video. I venture to guess that any ad revenue generated from its views go to the copyright owner (I don't personally derive any income from this KZfaq channel). I tend to just upload my videos from the events (as alternative storage space if in case something happens to my phone or other device(s) they may be kept on). In case of WWE events, I've never been told to take videos down or otherwise not make public.
