The U.S. National WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. is dedicated to the millions of Americans who dedicated their time and their lives during World War II. The memorial opened in 2004 and was dedicated by President George W. Bush. It features 56 granite pillars spread out over a large circle representing the 48 U.S. states during WWII, Washington, D.C. and various territories and commonwealths of the U.S. There are 24 bas-reliefs that feature various scenes from the war in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. The Freedom Wall features the message, "Here we mark the price of freedom."
