You are really sharp with WX. I think you should consider becoming an FAA Safety Team rep. It’s a volunteer role where you can give these presentations to.a more targeted audience. Keep up the great work.

I love the fact that you advocate actually calling Flight Services! I do the same thing on the drive to the airport. It's always good to have another human confirm (or correct) our conclusions. It's old school, and not many people do this any more...sadly.

You're so right! Pilots should know, understand, and make decisions based off of weather theory. However, we aren't making aviation weather decisions every day, especially GA hobbyists. Weather briefers look at it every day. They inform pilots and help them make decisions. It has taken me long enough to learn it, but asking for help from more knowledgeable and experienced people will make you grow faster.

It's great and refreshing that you're doing videos like these because as someone who has an instrument rating and also works in meteorology, I think there's room for improvement when it comes to making meteorology easier to understand during pilot training. All too often, it's viewed as just a bunch of "hard to grasp theory that you need to pass" or is just viewed from a regulatory perspective. This is often at the expense of taking a more holistic approach and really understanding how it affects all phases of flight in the real world. Has a big impact on safety.

Good enough to pass the test does have a huge impact on safety, like you said. And there are visible results due to that. Weather is a causal or contributing factor in too many aviation accidents. Your point here is exactly why I wanted to start this channel and provide big picture weather analysis for GA pilots - we need to get comfortable and familiar with weather procducts and using them to make safe decisions.

This is way overdue. PPL w/IFR from a couple decades ago and I know (knew) the weather products, but always had a hard time understanding/interpreting the big picture. But the on-field FSS would interpret for me and I'd be comfortable with that. Got back to flying recently and finding that I still have the same problem. This video was great!

I'm so glad you found it useful. Keep an eye out for more, I try to post a weather analysis video once a week. Pilots often feel uncertain or weary when it comes to making weather based decisions. The more we practice, the better we'll be! How has your journey been getting back into flying after so long? I'm sure there is a lot that has changed.

@@AeroSafe Aviating was easy, so BFR was quick. Navigating was a challenge because of GPS'es, but I was in diff aircraft with 430/530's, 650/750's, and G3X, so I'm just sticking with the 430/530's for now. Communicating just took some practice but not a problem. IPC is taking me some time though as I've forgotten a lot! 😁 Thank you ... I'll stay tuned to your channel.

Also adding... I had to try a couple instructors to find one mesh with... first guy kept yapping and repeating himself so I couldn't even think. Second guy is a tech professional like me, so we think alike... There's a huge difference between telling me to (a) *remember* to stop tuning the GPS so I can go back to my scan, vs. (b) telling me when I leave my instrument scan to go to the GPS with the intention of only doing 2 steps before going back to scan. When I get to the GPS, my mind is already counting down so I don't forget to go back to the scan.

@@AeroSafe No. Reread my comment, please. I wrote, "Title of video mentions TX. Did you mean WX?" Video description says "Get Instrument Current in TX" as in "Texas." I watched the video thinking it had to do with Texas. Did you perhaps mean to write WX for weather?
@AeroSafe

@@21trips Oh I see now. Is start talking about the conditions in TX that would be great for instrument flying at about 20:50. To your point, if I mention something in the title, maybe it should be closer to the start of the video.

No why so many pilots make it onto Dan Gryders permanent list of bad decision in IFR weather, trying to guess what the weather is going to do using the idiotic weather charts for VFR pilots. Use Wunderground 10 day forecast, eliminates all the guesswork 100%. You will never sit at you desk for thirty minutes like you would using charts in this video, putting your family at risk trying to figure out what you will run into using Wunderground ten day forecast it’s 100% accurate all the time.

@AeroSafe

Wunderground may be useful for some, but it is not an FAA approved source of aviation weather. Pilots need to know more than temperature, precipitation, and if it will be sunny. The weather briefs you see me conduct are country-wide and therefore take a fair amount of time, whereas a pilot's pre-flight weather briefing would be specific to their route of flight and any alternates. This would cut down on the amount of time it takes. If a pilot does not have time to conduct a thorough weather briefing, they may need to reconsider if it is a flight they should take, otherwise they could end up on that list you talk about.

Never finished building my airplanes, because I found a better way to fly. You can fly all day long at zero cost and zero risk in a simulator. You don't need to have your butt seated in a cockpit any more to enjoy flying. I never thought I'd want to do aerobatics or like them at all, I mean heck, a roller coaster now makes my insides feel like I was a marble in a washing machine... but using an FPV quadcopter where your feet stay on the ground and you experience zero G's, I'm now the best G.D. aerobatic pilot in the world, bar none. If you think you can best me, in a dogfight or in a dance, bring it.

Simulators can be a great way to learn procedures! I don't claim to be the world's best pilot, but don't try me on the dancefloor.
