Hey Josh, I love what your doing here and I have a similar story. I was the Chief Security Officer for the Blount Cultural Park and the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. And in that time I also put myself through collage majoring in fine art. I developed a love of costuming and assisted whom ever I could with costume builds on the side. In 2018 I was laid off after 13 years of dedicated service to the Shakespeare Festival. I was pretty depressed for a bit but I picked myself up by the boot straps and got a part time job pursuing costume building at Party City. I have a history of making costumes for reenactments specifically medieval and civil war and old west. People realized I was talented at it and began to ask me for commissions. After Party City I set out on my own to build a costume company. There were rough patches and more then a little worry about money and weather or not I was wasting my time instead of finding a real job. But, I kept at it and with the help of a fellow enterpenure we built Dark Tail Industries here in Montgomery AL. We now make costumes and cosplays for clients wanting to attend con's or fairs. This all took hard work and not quitting. So in closing I applaud your dedication sir. You must see my Texas Jack Virmikkion build on my Facebook page. Josh ,the only thing not true was the part of Wyatt working with Hickok . 1876 Wyatt went up to Deadwood to check out the place . He could have met Wild Bill and talked to him ,but he never worked for or with him . Wyatt’s good friend Bat Masterson wrote some good things about him . Bat said out of all the men he ever knew Wyatt was the only man who was totally devoided of fear. Bat while having a conversation with president Teddy Roosevelt said that the true story of the Wild West cannot be told unless Wyatt Earp speaks and he’s not talking . One of the guys sitting in on that conversation was a young staffer by the name of Stuart Lake . Mr Lake always remembered Bats story . Thought one day he would like to write a book about the West and Wyatt Earp. This is another whole story that you can write a book about. When you research your story about Bat Masterson you will find Wyatt too . Happy new year and super luck to you!

Wow, So you actually DID make the jump into doing this full time! All I can say is, congratulations man, that’s awesome! Throw up another few dozen, and by this time next year you’re gonna be rollin like Doo Doo Brown. One of my college professors once said to us, “My best advice to you all is, if you want to be happy in your professional life, then take what interests you the most in your leisure time, and figure out a way to get paid for doing it. If you can do that, you’ll not only be happily successful, but the money will take care of itself in no time flat.” And he was right... I’m from Texas myself, and spent most of my young life in Bee County. Hopefully at some point in the future you might come across something historically noteworthy that happened around there to talk about here on your channel. If not, it’s all good. I’ll still be here. Other story’s I would like you to also seriously consider doing one or two videos on are any accounts from mountain men, settlers, miners, surveyors, etc., on any of their experiences in regard to encountering, or having to deal with the Sasquatch people out West. I know Teddy Roosevelt’s book has a story in it about two fur trappers that had a run in with a particularly nasty individual deep in the mountains of Montana, where the Indians told them not to go. But from some of your previous comments made in other videos in regard to various “tinfoil subjects”, this may not be something you are down with getting into. If not, cool. But I can assure you that if you do decide to delve into the subject, the video view count on that video will quickly move near the top, or even surpass your highest viewed video in short order. Ive been so busy I haven't even had time to watch half your new stuff Josh but that only means I have good stuff to listen to around the campfire here this winter, I will eventually listen to all your stories atleast twice, trust that lol Hope you're hanging 10 on the 2023 holiday waves. As a podcast and niche yt channel enthusiast, as well as a daughter's father of 12 yrs Im very excited and inspired by your recent moves, I have a certain talent Ive basically sacrificed for the sake of stability and let me tell you, I shoulda kept up with it, keep living that dream because the only way to be an artist is to be an artist, which you are brother! Oh and apropos of nothing but maybe a geographical source for material, I was just talking to my cousin about a case of lost dragoons out here where we live, Apaches attacked a cavalry bringing supplies and the survivors hid the 1 case of pistols they held on to, which were never to be seen again, local youtubers 'Mysteries of the Superstition Mountains' tell the story lots of interesting stories out here but good story tellers are a dwindling commodity. I grew up on the wheel gun, I'm only 39, however my father was 40 when he had me and is nearly 80. He never owned a semi until I bought him a baby-G . Whether Earp said it or not; it's legit everything from 5 rounds until Ruger and S&W started making safety bars in their wheel guns down to the way you cock your hammer as you raise your gun. So honestly it holds no weight whether he said it or not, the fact he wasn't gunned down likely means he abided by all or most of those principles. There's a difference bt a solid shot under pressure and a trick shooter. So maybe he said it, maybe he didn't, either way it's true. Heard this before, felt the same way h the first time I heard it. Kinda like the Bible, whether you believe it or not it's true, I believe it, buy even if I didn't I've lived both ways and I would much rather have taken it to heart younger than i did, live woulda had less heart ache, not necessarily easier, but less weight on them old shoulders up here on Appalachia

I can just never consider why it hurt to be as brave a man as some of the others. Although he undoubtedly had courage there is two newspaper accounts to where he backed down from Johnny Ringo of course there's really no shame in backing down to Johnny Ringo as he was considered the most dangerous man in Arizona. And then they still eat his name in the movie tombstone by having doc Holliday kill him when doc Holliday was 900 mi away and Wyatt Earp was over 700 miles away. Buckskin Frank Leslie cowardly shot Johnny Ringo as he saw him sleeping since earlier that day they had had an argument. Billy brackenridge ran into first a very intoxicated Johnny Ringo as he put it on almost helpless Johnny Ringo so he tried to get him to go home with him. Listing of all down the trail he run into buckskin Frank Leslie who told him he was looking for Ringo. Breckenridge knowing how helpless Ringo was denied seeing him to buckskin. After he went to jail for murdering his live-in girlfriend he told a guard that he come upon ringgold drunk passed out and he took the opportunity to shoot him and cut some of his hair off as a souvenir and that 100% matches the crime scene.

Shoot, I always only ever use one revolver at a time in Red Dead 2.

Doesn’t matter if he said it exactly like that or not the sentiment is true even today the point of what was said is simple fancy means more to go wrong under stress small muscle groups tend to not work so well and you tend to revert to what you know so if you practice with large muscle groups you have less to to go wrong when you do revert. This is stressed on in any self defense class or firearms class I’ve taken that is self defense oriented for example the slide release on a modern semi automatic pistol is generally a small trivial thing to get ahold of which does require the meet of the thumb now you can accomplish the same effect by grabbing the slide racking it back and letting go after changing the magazine and it requires a larger muscle group but it not fancy

I believe some of that might have come from Wyatt. The loading of 5 really stands out as a red flag to me. Other then the military loading 5 during parades and general inspections for preventing negligent discharges. This is Due to how the hammer is put on the safety notch. Other then that, Its really not until after 1900 you will find people really talking about carrying 5. Being almost every original SAA i have seen. All have some wear on the safety notch. I have noticed The military revolvers have the most wear. Meaning those guns were carrying 6. No amount of hair trigger modifications will make the safety notch fail. It doesn't really work like that. The safety notch and half cock notch is more like a tunnel that Captures the trigger. When they wear because of sand and grit. the trigger cuts the notch deeper. making the hammer set farther forward. One of my SAAs the safety notch is worn so deep the hammer could almost touch the primer. When you start hearing people talking about loading 5 its really starts after 1900 and by that time quit a dit of these guns have lived hard lifes. the safety notch can be so worn its not smart to trust it. Being the 5 vs 6 starts around the time that many of these guns were getting worn out. I don't believe that's a coincidence. There is alot more to this. I have been working on a very indept video covering everything from The science aspect all the way to court records and Military records. Hopefully i will have it out sooner then later.

I don't know if the quote actually comes from Wyatt Earp, but it certainly echoes the thought processes of other gunfighters at the time. Bat Masterson, who worked with Earp in Dodge City, KS, is well-known to have espoused the "deliberate man" doctrine of gunfighting. I would have to disagree with some of the quote, however. If you practice anything diligently enough, you will become very good at it, including "fanning" a revolver. I've spent a lot of time practicing with a cap and ball Navy Colt replica revolver drawn from a tied-down open holster as part of a tourist attraction show in Dodge City KS in the early 1980s. I quit the show when it became too difficult to draw and fire slower than my opposite number in the act. There's an old military dictum that comes into play in something like this, "slow is sure, sure is fast". From personal experience, in the show, just thinking "GO" triggered the motions necessary to draw and fire the revolver. Also, the five-shot thing only applied to cartridge-firing guns. Most cap and ball revolvers, my replica included, had a safety notch on the cylinder that allowed you to put the hammer down between caps. So you could safely carry the revolver with all six chambers loaded. As with most human endeavors, there are no absolute answers.

I find it strange, that he would make judgment and label those who had "Accidental Discharges", when It is recorded, that he was among the ranks of those he is talking about.It was with a PC model revolver, that was equipped with a mid notch safety, that was not utilized. Furthermore, if those he hails as knowledgeable, had read the Manuals, that came with their 73's, they would have known about the safety notch, that the revolvers were designed with. Now, having said that, he did mention some modifying their revolvers so, maybe some modified that feature obsolete and a fools move, in my opinion.

Whether Wyatt or Lake created the "Soliloquy" of Practical Gun Fighting, or a combination of the two created the end result, is at this late date a question answered only by Opinion, educated or uneducated guesswork, ans stuff we "Believe" to be true, only because we'd like it to be so. Whatever the source of the words attributed to Wyatt by Lake, the inarguable fact is that Wyatt lived through perhaps the most dangerous period of "The Old & Wild West", without a single Bullet Wound, even though he was involved in more than a few Gun Fights "To The Death", and came out still alive, when his opponents didn't make out so well.....In fact, most ended up Graveyard Dead, courtesy of Wyatt Earp. This factual evidence dictates that even if he wasn't eloquent and may have put his thoughts in short, often monosyllabic phrases, my "Opinion" is that Wyatt had paid attention to the "Serious Individuals" and their advice, when it came to Gunplay. It's hard to learn anything but, What Not To Do, from a man who is found lying Shot Dead In The Dirt. At least that's the way I got it figured. Another Really Good One, Josh.
