In April, I cycled from Bristol to the Peak District. Sadly the footage from Shugborough Estate to the Peaks was lost when my computer crashed a few weeks ago, but I loved cycling through the midlands, especially the Wye Valley! My day off cycling around Telford will be up as its own video in the coming weeks.
As I'm uploading, I realise I didn't give (or cut out) context re: the house I visit in Upper Welland. That was my late grandparents' house after retirement and it's the house we went to for Christmas most years, where we played the dictionary game in the living room, and where my granny and I would watch the news together at 6am with a cup of tea.
This vid has none of the extra elements I loved including in the Cornwall to Land's End video -- no handwritten location names, no intertextuality, etc. I think that's because as I was editing I was so mindful of the very different place I was in after that long winter. I experienced the cycle so differently to the previous one. I certainly gravitated to ruin after ruin and sought out the rolling country roads wherever I could. I paused more, allowed myself to hop on the train on one of the days, and realised this was about coming back to my body in more ways than one.

I couldn't leave London this summer because I was heavily pregnant, so I'm now sitting on the sofa, watching this with my baby as she feeds and travelling a bit vicariously thanks to your footage. Thanks for sharing, it's making me feel so at peace with myself and the world despite everything else going on. xx

it's funny- obviously you film more when you're on your own, but the end result is this very quiet, contemplative, isolated-feeling experience that I, a deeply introverted person, find relaxing. The idea of "ruining" it by interacting with others was jarring for me, but obviously this hugely positive part of the experience for you. Just amazes me, the differences possible between people. The illusions / omissions of framing and curating content, even incidentally. Anyway, the video prompted thoughts and now the thoughts are in the comments section and I shall go on to feed the algorithm more of myself. Thank you for the video, looking forward to seeing the next one.

Thank you very much for this :) I love watching your cycling trips, I always watch them as I'm gearing up for own solo cycling adventures and they give me that extra bit of courage I need. I love trips like these so much once I'm out there, but I feel very apprehensive beforehand. I feel like i'm just throwing myself in at the deep end, and eventhough I know I'll love it, I get very anxious about it and stay anxious until I have a few kilometres under my belt. Weird right? Anyway, watching these, they give me faith that what I know to be true will be true again, and I will love being out there on my bike. So thanks for that :) Lots of love, Anne

thank you for sharing your journey! This looks like such a soul-invigorating experience and I'm honestly considering planning my own biking trip, though my step 1 would be to reacquaint myself with cycling again heheh. Would you mind sharing your trips on how you plan for your cycling journeys? Specifically, was wondering about the safety aspect of travelling alone (if that factors in at all)
@rosianna
@rosianna 3 жыл бұрын
Yes for sure! I am going to endeavour to make my video answering questions about planning this week but honestly I don’t worry hugely about travelling alone because when I follow national cycle network routes I always pass other cyclists along the way. That said, travelling alone is the reason I book somewhere to stay rather than camping-I’m not there yet! The only thing that spooks me really is foggy moorland with low visibility. But yes will talk more about that all in a vid this week!

I love these biking vlogs so much, each one increases my desire to do an England cycling trip of my own! I have one question though - I only saw a short clip featuring your bike, but it didn't look like there are racks on the front or back to carry your bags. Are you using paniers? If not, I really highly recommend considering adding them to your bike! Switching to them has gotten rid of any back pain for me on longer rides and they are wonderfully less back-sweaty too!

I’m going to make my vids about this (and other) topics soon but the first thing I’d say is look up local cycle routes if you don’t know them already and if you have a bike, start there! 20 minute trips in one direction and you can always get off and walk if you need. I think when I did this I found myself wanting to go further and further. Also, your community might have some kind of cycling group! Some of them are really low key and just about getting out there for a ride :)
