Crisis management specialist Mike Paul tells “Banfield” that Wynonna Judd showed a “tough love moment” by choosing not to appear in court when her daughter, Grace Kelley, was sentenced to 60 days in jail after being charged with exposing herself. Paul says Judd’s decision was likely about making sure her daughter showed accountability for her actions rather than not having the money to pay a fine that would have helped her daughter avoid jail time.

My child started getting in trouble with the law. We went through hell. The one thing, I would not do, was go up to that courthouse. He was something else. Best thing we did was let him stand on his own. Fully self sufficient and thriving! Sometimes you have to save your grandchild and yourself, so that grandchild has a chance. We have the grandchild.

It's very scary and can be soul-crushing honestly. I also work in the criminal court system as a court stenographer so I've seen everything. My son and his wife have given us two grandbabies now and they are doing much better and they're living on their own. Sometimes it's better to step away from the addict, it's certainly harder then bailing them out. At 21, I made the choice to step back from my mom who was a hardcore alcoholic. She was an alcoholic all my life and for my well being I needed to step back from her. She died 3 days later at age 44. You can't make addicts get clean! They have to want to get clean. 💯 It's an incredibly sad life for the addict and their family suffers deeply. 😬

My 25 year old grandson went through a stretch where he was in trouble and everyone was paying his lawyers and going the extra mile for him posting bonds to get him out of jail. I told him if he did more than get a traffic ticket after all of that, I would disown him. He's my only grandson and my first born grandchild but 4 different times and charges was too much. I told him I love you but I have no use for losers or criminals and doing the way he was, qualified him for the labels if he got in anymore trouble. He and I have been very close since he was born, and even though it would break my heart to disown him, he was breaking my heart by pulling stupid stunts.

With Wynonna not showing up for the sentencing, that's definitely making a statement to the judge. She's telling the judge she wants her daughter to pay for her crime. It's telling her grown ass child to stop doing what you're doing and I'm not🎉 going to help you anymore. Period!! This is not her first rodeo. Good for her, she owes no explanation.

Dude doesn't "get it" because he has never had to live it. When you have a kid that is an adult and basically tells you to go F$k yourself instead of embracing help, it's time to cut the cord. I did this with my son.. In fact, when he was a TEENAGER I told him if he ever got put in jail for stupid shit don't expect me to be there. And I have never ever stepped foot in the jail or courtroom on his behalf when he DID start doing stupid shit. 5 years of no contact. Now he's straightened himself out (without my interferance) and things are good. There is no resentment about it either... He knew the consequences.

Excuse me but it's no ones business. This is between Wynonna and her daughter. It is not our place to speculate or talk what's going on in their relationship and blast it on tv. This shouldn't even be discussed. Let them be. It's already hard enough that Wynonna had to deal with her daughter's issues over the years but to then pry into their lives on national tv, that's too much and I think it crosses a line. Where are your boundaries? It doesn't matter if they're famous or not. This is a family matter. Not yours, not ours. Theirs. Show some respect. Would you like people sticking their nose into your business and picking apart what's going on in your life and putting it out there on national tv? I think not. This family has been through some really dark times. Leave them alone.

As a mother of a son who suffered with SUD ( sober 5 years) there is absolutely no excuse for anyone to judge the actions of a mother. The heartbreak, fears, anger, despair, all of it , become absolutely overwhelming at times. Even a mother has to protect herself. There were nights when I knew my son had no place to go that I would turn my phone off because I physically nor mentally could handle another thing at that moment. I opened the door to a police officer one evening and collapsed before he could get a word out. The fear never leaves. The " Verizon" ring tone gives me PTSD. That was the ringtone on my phone the day I was called to inform me my son had attempted self harm. Sorry to go off on a tangent but as a mom, this really struck a nerve with me. Please do better! ❤️

Accountability...I am a mother of six and I myself struggled with addiction at one point and almost ruined my life tired friend family, not for any other reason than not taking advantage of the help that was offered. My own father was a very well off man with a ton of money but he too held back and let me have the child hard realities on my own which forced me to see the darkness and unfortunately without support of any kind. I lucky had a beautiful man who found me and patiently pointed out the rest back it took a long time even a couple of slips but I made it with the grave of God. It is not easy but I truly believe running is doing the best thing, it will never change the love and desire for her daughter to live healthy happy and honest and clean. Prayers for Grace, Elijah, and Wynonna.

Try being a mother in her shoes. Money doesn't buy everything and shouldn't. People no matter how rich they are need to face consequences. I had to be a tough love mother. It absolutely killed me but I had made excuses for my daughter, lied to help her and even risked my career to get her out of trouble. It's the hardest thing a mother could have to do next to having to bury their child. Unfortunately all the help and tough love didn't help mine so at the age of only 20 I had to bury mine. I live with many regrets when it comes to my daughter but honestly that moment that I had to be a "tough love mother" is one I don't regret. I know that moment is why I got to keep her on this earth for a couple years longer. Some people just can't be rescued. I'll miss her every single damn day. She's been gone for 8 years but it feels like an eternity.

As a mother of 2 drug addicted sons, the journey is still ongoing. I've learned a hard fact...when you're dealing with an addiction, there is NO middle ground, you can't bargain or barter with it, you're either enabling it, or you're not. That's the hard truth. I love my sons and will do everything to help them get into serious treatment, but I will not spend 1 more second enabling the addiction. When dealing with it, it's very easy to blur the lines, justify, and make excuses, and that is how addiction grows and overtakes people.

My sister and brother-in-law bailed out their son constantly and finally on the last time. My sister almost had a nervous breakdown. But they decided not to help and he had to do some time. And when he came out he has been a new man has his own place has his job. Work 16 hours a day. He's a total different person and I agree. You have to have tough love. They even had to call the place that I want to help him not to get him in trouble but to help him and it turned out good for him. I can understand where she's coming from. If you don't have children. It's sometimes a different story how you look at things.❤

Absolutely!!!! Teaching her accountability !! Go Wynnona. You have to as a parent step back! My son got into a bad hole regarding friends and drugs. He had to pull himself out. We were there as his parents so he was not homeless but he had to abide by our rules with no drugs in the house!! He didn’t …so for awhile he was homeless…he now is thriving. He told us that was the turning point when we left him for a while. Hard love. Hard as a parent…😢

Her mother is damn right. Set her adrift….she’s obviously out of control.
