It's cell animation really a shame what has happened to animation. I believe.. you know I grew up in '80 cell animation.. not that I'm against supplemental computer animation.. because it sure has got an amazing lately but there is something to be said with cell colors mostly hand drawen & shaded cell animation. I have a dream that I think about most every other day cuz I'm such a transformer fan is how much I & i know true FAZnS & fans of great old school TRANSFORMERS.. I do believe the true fans would really love TO have a true animation movie in the style of Transformers the movie 86' you know I think a lot of people are excited about the Netflix reboot. If my assumption is correct, you should try reading the other Witches novels in the Discworld series and then maybe branch out to the other books in the series. If my assumption is wrong, well, I'm just wrong. :) Wouldn't want to pass up the chance to recommend a fabulous book series to someone over something as silly as the fear of being wrong on the internet. lol

I feel like i can count on one hand the number of animated films nowadays that can come close to the charm this show has. It was Anette Crosby who did the voice for Granny Weatherwax, June Whitfield provided the voice for Nanny Ogg. I think the poster was referring to the actual death of Granny Weatherwax in the final Discworld novel, 'The Shepherd's Crown'.

He's told me that I'm a lot like Susan mixed in with Granny Weatherwax and a little of Nanny Ogg and I consider that a high compliment since Granny Weatherwax is one of my favourite characters. I found The Shepherd's Crown" disturbing and upsetting because of the death of Granny Weatherwax, the introduction of a rather one-dimensionally unbelievable character - the 'calm weaver' - and, like most who've read the book, because it was Pratchett's last ever novel.

@Kybele Kordax- Upsetting indeed! To be honest though, I think T.P had been planning to kill off Granny Weatherwax for a while. I'm sure there were a few hints in previous books, but what was most upsetting to me, was the way you could tell, certainly from 'Unseen Academicals' onwards, that his illness was beginning to affect his writing. I reckon that without Lyn & Rhianna's input, the last five or so books would've been practically unreadable! Such a terrible disease, literally destroying one of the finest minds of our lifetime. The animation is actually surprisingly good in places, but you have to except that the production was probably a little bit troubled. The scene with the conjured demon in particular is animated very well, but then there's other scenes that look really stiff. It's a mixed bag.

Been reading Discworld for a long time, started at twelve. (Thirteen? ...) Anyway, have these movies on VHS somewhere. Good stuff.

Maxx Kroes Starting with colour of magic is the best way to get people to not read the whole series. Start with Equal Rites, it's a witches book, like this film and it is when Pratchett starts to really get into the groove of discworld.

You literally see him going from correcting the actor's lines, that he probably just overheard, to fumbling over those same lines a moment later. He didn't forget them, that is a classic example of stage fright. Death, who has existed before recorded history and reaped millions of souls, got stage fright. If anyone is still reading this long-winded comment, read Pratchett's Reaper Man if you haven't already.

Bonus fact: Death is of the only character, who you can find in all of Prachett's books. Even if just for one line, but hr is allways there.

Old English is one giant pain in the ass to understand. I remember my senior year reading Macbeth. On grad day we just destroyed her car with spray paint) The only thing we got out of Macbeth was that witches like mischief.

Very nice fellow. I met him many years ago when he was a guest of honor at a convention in New York. We had the hotel room next to him. His books always have a place on my shelf.

I met him when I was 12 or 13 and he was touring for The Wee Free Men. He signed it, "To Tim, with cheese!!!". He is a lot of the reason I kept reading fantasy and went on to get an English degree.

I've only begun to get into the series and I agree. Perhaps if more people get into the books and there is a great demand they'll do some animate films.

AnnaArs09 Then you obviously haven't seen Hogfather, or Going Postal. Both are considerably better productions than this is, and are live action. (Michelle Dockery as Susan "Death's Granddaughter" Sto Helit is superb in the roll) To me, this is lackluster and hurried. All of Pratchett's great wordplay is here, but it's rushed and the timing isn't good. They tried to cram every last word and joke in too limited an amount of time. Not to mention the animation is terrible. Only two things stand out: Christopher Lee as the voice of Death, and Jane Horrocks as the absolutely perfect voice of Magrat. Otherwise the voice acting is mediocre at best.
