WZUU Milwaukee Hit the air waves as Z95, a clone of Z100, WHTZ-FM New York. Program Director Scott Shannon and his very talented cast of on air personalities took Z100 from "Worst to First," from last place to the number on station heard on the airwaves in New York in a short 74 days making Z100 and the Z-Morning Zoo the number one morning show in North America.

I loved working here asTony Wild Child Hamilton. I went to B-96 Chacago after Milwaukee nd then went to Z-100 and Kiss Fm in LA with my brother Hollywood Hamilton. Tay Hamilton my brothers daughter is in Nashville working as a DJ. Check her out.

@robynwatts The cart machines in the shelf above the board was introduced when I built Z-100. That's how Scott Shannon wanted them, and I think it's how he had them set up at his previous station in Tampa. Afterward, we copied that idea into some other stations.

I lived in the Chicago area most of the '80s and remember B96 and Joe Dawson their DJ.

I lived in Milwaukee in the mid-'80s and remember this station. Any remember Tony 'Wild Child' Hamillton? I also remembered one of Z95's television commericals, the one that had people breaking radios and boom boxes? I did find here on KZfaq, but can't find again it, was a funny commerical.

Z100 was a clone of Q105 (WRBQ) in Tampa where Scott Shannon and Cleveland Wheeler did the original Morning Zoo. There's really nothing new here on the former WRIT-FM that wasn't pioneered in Tampa; Friday-Friday, Quitin' time...all that stuff...except the jock spitting all over the mic.

I now live in Florida and 30-35 miles east of Tampa and do listen to Q105. It too had those same jingles as Z100 and Z95 did? I lived both in the Chicago and Milwaukee area back in the 1980's and listened to Z95 while in Milwaukee and B96 in Chicago which almost sounded like Z95 with the radio jingles.

In Edmonton, 630 CHED (yes, AM) had Mr. Maynard. 100% clone of Z100.

So, John Rio portrayed "Mr. Leonard" and the Malrite-owned WHTZ shared him with Z95 as they were co-owned. Rio was actually an integral part of the 93Q/Houston morning show starring John Lander. And, what's totally strange was that by the end of 1986, Q105 in Tampa had a rip-off character called "Dr. Leonard" who, instead of driving a lime-green Pinto, had a lime-green Cadillac. It was pretty lame, but that was a different era. This aircheck is a total WHTZ clone -- J.R. Nelson's liners and the original pre-Jam jingle package taken from B96 in Chicago. And, as someone who grew up with Z100, this Milwaukee clone is ... pretty terrible. Larry the Legend had it. Randy Kabrich got it. This is a good explanation of why WRIT and "Big" succeeded this crap.
