@@elisagiambartino3483 I've noticed that they both, especially Scully, seemed more open with each other in the first season as well. She would smile and joke around more. She was amused by Mulder. After her abduction she was traumatized and his fight became hers. She was violated and she put walls up more to protect herself. And as thr season progress and you can slowly see them realize that they are falling for each other both are too scared to ruin the one constant solid thing in their live. They push back and keep each other always close but at arms length. They have both lost too much to lose each other. Mulder alsopushes back out of guilt for what happened to her. He's hurt her enough why bring a romantic relationship into it that could could badly and hurt her even more. It's like what CSM said to Scully in En Ami " You're drawn to powerful men but you fear their power. You keep your guard up, a wall around your heart. How else do you explain that fearless devotion to a man obsessed, and, yet, a life alone? You'd die for Mulder but you won't allow yourself to love him." She's drawn to Mulders power and strength in his convictions, but she is also scared of it...bc look where it has gotten her. Yet, she can't really ever leave him bc she can't live without him. Thr one thing she has left that is in her control, bc so much has been taken from her, so much that has happened to her she hasn't had control over...is her feelings for Mulder and what she does with them. Opening herself to him and making herself vulnerable would feel like a lack of control...bc then the ball is in his court and she has nothing left in her control. It's only in All Things she realizes she's can control those too. She controls what she does with them.

Actually, Scully is a friend in his past life - his soul mate is another woman, judging by one of the MOTW epidoses.

@@lunarikariko981 ....I am going by the shows own lore. Scully is portrayed as a friend throughout time while Mulder finds his soulmate being another woman. Which isn't really that different than what we see in the show with their platonic to sexual to back to platonic rinse and repeat.

Jane Eyre when Mulder rescued Scully in Irresistalbe was when I did.

I fell in love with the XFiles in the episode "Ice" it's a pretty cool episode but I loved it becouse of the Mulder and Scully's scene in that little room. In that scene they understand that they CAN trust each other, and they HAVE to.

+kisushiteonegai Yes, that is exactly how TV is supposed to work. You show both the audience and the programming executives nearly every potential aspect of the show in the pilot episode--give them a little taste of virtually everything the show will have to offer so that they can decide whether to give it a chance (if you don't then they won't, and your show would be over before it started). Then in the second episode, you back off and repeat the process more slowly over the first season, only taking it so far. Then you really start to get things going (slowly or quickly--up to the producers now) in subsequent seasons. Now, the love between Mulder and Scully could have been something that developed entirely organically during the course of the show, but the way it came about and the timing shows that it was always part of Chris Carter's original vision for the show, even though he took a while to fully acknowledge this. I think that he would have allowed it to develop more gradually if he could have, but given the obvious chemistry between the actors he had to use this to help sell the show, which was already a long-shot to succeed as it was--he had no choice, and thus the Mulder and Scully relationship began in the pilot episode. Carter still did manage to keep it to a slow burn, though, as we all know and appreciate.

The way I interpret it, Scully literally strips herself bare and decides to trust Mulder. Then Mulder reciprocates by telling her about his sister's disappearance and his family life, metaphorically stripping himself bare.

I'd say in season 5 ? The new years scene kiss. Kind of. ^^
