I’m glad you mentioned the BMX slam. They censored that like crazy. I heard that if you didn’t watch it live that they cut it right out of the broadcast (not 100% sure on that) but we used to at least get the courtesy of seeing people stretchered off the course and give a thumbs up! I actually found that they tried to just sweep that slam under the rug, which seemed disrespectful. Dude nearly smashes his whole face in and we’re like ‘nothing happened, moving on!’

I had it streaming in the background and accidentally saw the BMX slam live. It was horrific. The commentators were all pretty shaken and they talked about it for a bit but tried to put an optimistic positive spin on it which seemed a bit tasteless when nobody knew if he would survive.

Women's skateboarding has really come a long way. I remember a few years ago watching women's street league and feeling like I could have done every one of those tricks when I was in my prime. I think the best trick was a back 50-50 tre flip out on a box. Still behind the men obviously, but way ahead of where it was. Especially with them all being so young, it should only improve.

I beg of these announcers to watch an olympic figure skating or gymnastics event and study the announcing. You don't have to mirror how they talk, but please note how you can balance being supportive/empathetic/excited while also having a semi intellectual discussion around runs that won't make the grade or where deductions will take place. Treating competing professional women's athletes like make-a-wish kids learning to skateboard is insulting to them and the viewers.

There was no parks and snow on the ground 8 months out of the year. So it was real limited...only two videos I could watch where bones brigade animal chin and public domain (only ones available to rent). As i got into high school other pursuits took over and I got away from skating. The internet rekindled my interest, and now I watch as a fan.

I really wish someone from the x games would watch this and take your points into consideration. I think most people agree that the commentators should explain why scores are given. They also shouldn't be so soft and tell it like it is. Soccer commentators roast players for mistakes they make, and it's completely justified and understood by everyone.
