I agree with you... for me it was ALWAYS about X-Men. I didn't give a damn about the Avengers until the MCU

Outside of Jubilee and maybe Jean Grey before the Phoenix saga; I never thought the X/Men in TAS came across as lackluster or underpowered. Storm was one of my favorites in TAS because she was so awesome. One of the reasons I always left the movies disappointed was because with the exceptions of Wolverine, Xavier and Magneto the characters were either diminished (Cyclops, Rogue & Storm) or like Gambit, invisible. Cyclops was a competent leader in TAS. In97 he was less of a Boy Scout and used his powers more creatively.

We talked about the good and the great sheer perfection of X Men (97) but no one talks about the other things in X Men (97) that didnt quite work , was off , odd , things we cant explain that just didnt work , so here are my 10 things that bugged me about X Men 97 and ill try episode to episode 10. Episode 1 : Zombie Sentinels ( those arent the ones that Bishop told us about that invaded The White House ) Rogue hits one , knocks it out and took 1 hit only for the rest. Storm comes in cleans up house and Master Mold doesnt even fire to defend itself , just lets Wolverine behead it. UN comes in after and give their word only science division cleans up Master Mold . Why not hack Trask mind to find out other sentinel bases ? 9. Episode 2 What was the entire point of Magneto Trial ? Charles asked him to walk his path not to surrender to the UN. Unless UN bring sentinels to capture Magneto , it was just his choice 8.Logan made Jean to take his healing factor and that makes sense. Our Jean was there when Wolverine missed her wedding in favor of killing Cyclops in the danger room and she acts like she didnt know how Logan felt for her all this time ? 7.Magneto our leader ... pores 3 sugar cups and barks orders and has no emotion or joy to hear its Jubilee B Day 6. When Rogue meets Magneto according to her , she looked like 14-16 of age tops hinting that Mrs Marvel took place after she dumped Magneto 5.From my perspective , what Charles was asked of is to just wash his hands before dining at the finest table and how he dumped Lelandra so brutally. Xavier didnt do very much at all. Rogue could have hijack his powers and restore Earth ( spoilers ) 4. How is attacking an armed military base and what how general Ross knew about Gyreck or Trask? 3.Bastion talked about breed control making it seem it was just mass sterilization of mutants what happened in Genosha. Sinister used a device to block out Savage Land so mutants cant se their powers. Do just that and you have breed control , no extinction no such brutality 2.A dream you had me sell . So Cyclops was right all along it was just b@lsheet he ddnt believe it and waited for humans to strike first 1.The OG sentinels blasted Forge and Storm and there where at least 10.Power back on , Prime sentinels and now just 3 OG sentinels ? what gives ?

I came to Marvel in 1967, long before the "new" X-Men even existed, and I loved the Avengers most of all. A decade later, the X-Men, under Claremont and Byrne, replaced them (thanks to episodes like "How Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth"). I really liked the X-Men movies and continue to watch them, even though they got so much wrong. The MCU, though, in its early entries at least, got it right. You could see that the writers knew the lore and were including as much of it as a twenty-first century audience could be expected to believe. I stuck with the MCU through a few disappointments (Dr Strange and the first Spider-Man movie and especially the Ant-Man abomination) until Thor Ragnarok when it became clear that what we were getting now was the Not Brand Echh version of the MCU. I'd love to see the X-Men done right on the big screen, but I doubt modern audiences will ever take to a Wolverine that isn't Hugh Jackman.

Oh wow, so you've definitely been around to see the roots of all this! You bring up a lot of interesting points. The early MCU is very different from the films of recent years and specifically, I think a movie like Ragnarok showed how completely lazy Marvel had become in that they didn't know how to write Thor, so they just turned him into a silly shell of what he should be. And while I said that I'm content with never seeing an X-Men movie again, I'm certainly not going to oppose it either if the right people are behind it. Thanks for listening!
