I'm going to leave it here for now. I can certainly push much lower, but I need to figure some things out. Namely, Magneto skip is still a mystery, and how to make Astral Plane 2 more consistent. -- Watch live at / smellymctroll

Loved both this and the second game. Surprised it’s not a more popular choice to speed run.

hmm... kinda interesting the route changes. generally speaking the costume changes are a time loss, but i also go out of my way to put colossus and psylocke on my team just so i can have all party members, so whatever. gambit's buff is 10% at 4 points and 25% at 7 points. the other points alter duration, damage, and cost and it's therefore somewhat questionable if he needs to go beyond 7 as the other points do not increase speed. they're rare, but whenever you're in a situation where your fourth party member doesn't matter the best option is jubilee with her assist move set to photoflash. it can actually be really helpful in levels with narrow corridors as enemies will briefly stand still and not move, allowing you to get around them. kinda wish you hadn't gotten that hammer of nimrod drop so i had a better idea of your gear/tech bit farming route, but as you're aware it's an insanely lucky drop that obviously helps immensely. level by level: i've known for a while i'm way too conservative in the first level. my intentional death of wolverine makes haarp safer as you can use the level up as a heal. overall if you can get a basic power enhancer before mystique you save like 20 seconds so i still think farming the low percentage barrels before her is worth it, but it is not that far off from your hammer of nimrod luck i think our haarp facilities are roughly equal despite slightly different approaches. my major time loss is probably farming the pyro room which is again conservative and unnecessary. in the toad fight you kinda get in the way of toad's pathing to the jets a few times during his fight, and you can actually skip his last phase if you can hit a combo right (but i don't go for it in my run as cyclops is dead and you need both leaderships -- that fight also goes pretty bad in my run). i was unaware of the power enhancer buff, it saves maybe 40ish seconds in danger room from the look of it as with my leveling i am eventually taking out the bots in 9 hits to your 7. the cutscene trigger at the end is 13 bots or at least the first 5, possibly more but less than 13, bots and magma at something like 15% health, problem is bots do something like 18% damage with each hit so it's very easy to be at like 17% health and too high to trigger the end and too low to take a hit so unless you're watching your damage numbers very closely and learn the exact amount (while doing the math in your head to know you're safe) it's too risky to take the threshold strat, even though it's faster. didn't really notice anything significant in sewers 1. i overtake you in arbiter and the only real explanation is you fight too much stuff as there are some little movement things you do better, but you lose a lot of time here. i still like my death warp with rogue, though not sure it saves time. i think rescuing crewmen and the civilians later they need to be in their walk animation while crossing the exit trigger which is the exit sign, not the door (or arrow not the ambulance) and there cannot be a notification in the middle of the screen forcing you to only save one at a time. i've always found fighting blob as magma pretty easy, it's possible that the muscle accelerator buffing attack speed is better than the power enhancer buffing damage, similar to your shadow king fight. i'm not sure looting the area is necessary nor do i think fiery form is that useful (though you probably still want the power enhancer vs. mystique and probably don't want to menu). so... there's a huge skip on nuke plant that i wasn't aware of until a few months ago, and apparantly you weren't aware of it either. it saves roughly 2 minutes. you can rescue colossus in nuke plant the first time you meet him. it's tricky to get the angles right and it requires flying to the top of the map and basically standing on the ceiling on a ledge that's so small jean will fall off to her death after moving the second machine arm in place, but you can complete the level way earlier and save yourself the headache of a pretty difficult section of the game as well. it's such a huge timesave that any run moving forward pretty much has to include it. and has me really wanting to start runs of the game again, but i need all sorts of hardware to be able to do that. also similar to magma on muir, you can move when the reactor is cooling, so shadowblending nightcrawler and walking towards the exit saves a few seconds. i feel fighting things on muir island is a mistake but as i mentioned, i don't really know your gear/tech bit farming route. i don't think their drop rate is high enough. grso raid is whatever. i think you're faster. it's a blah level. i don't know why i never considered picking up the xp in weapon x and doing it first. i always did them in the other order because wolverine pretty much needs to be level 15, but your order is faster. my havok fight is horrible, yours is maybe one throw away from perfect. don't claim switching to cyclops to get out of that room is your strat, i've been doing that forever. obviously you get that great rng with the hammer of nimrod drop, and jumping off the crate is a good strat too. in astral 1, everything seems to go well, psychic shout is obviously a good call. i'm not sure if you timed whether storm or gambit was faster at killing the sentinels. it looked roughly the same to me, but i'll assume you were actually faster. both of us have pretty bad sewers 2/launch base with characters dying that shouldn't. my avalanche fight is awful imo. it's just an annoying level. jumping the gap in sewers 3 is definitely the way to go, i think i knew this but wolverine dies in my run. i'd also reunite the team before going after that last ladder. not much to say about sentinels or juggernaut. i can't say much other than practice astral 2. it's interesting you consider blob the easiest to quick kill as i by far consider him the hardest to land. generally speaking you want to hit a non-boss target as storm that chains to the boss, quickly switch to whoever is closest to the boss and hit for the quick kill. this kill should work on any enemy who has invulnerability (i actually discovered it first on magneto), which should include toad (which would be huge) but i've never quick killed toad. it's kinda funny that you use storm in a different room than i do in the sentinel factory. i think using storm in both is fastest. the breakable doors are the wooden ones, the metal ones are unbreakable, the emulator may not flag the doors correctly but in-game it's easy to spot. i know my storm death warp looks slow but her health should be low enough that it's like one hit (in my run her health is too high) and then you warp to the entrance of the room, saving time. i don't have a ton of trouble with the morlocks. you basically destroy the portion of bannister nearest the stairs (which your last morlock gets stuck on) and it usually works out fine for me. astral 3. i'll need to learn your shadow king strat. otherwise it's another whatever stage. wolverine is waaaaaaaaaaaaay faster than storm on asteroid m, just by punching through doors. interior quarters is u-shaped and you can skip most of it with nightcrawler, unfortunately you have to do it without separating the team as this is the only area of asteroid m that cares if your team is united. i feel there are potentially a lot more skips like this in game if you or someone wants to hunt for them. this skip does save significant time but it's risky and late in the run. i've never had issues with the magneto skip. it could be version specific or that i'm shadowblended matters. i've never had an issue with the endgame xtraction point either. there's again the hammer of nimrod on gambit or storm debate (jubilee, iceman, psylocke, and magma all have projectiles identical to gambit too, but he has that buff that gives him the edge). i think nightcrawler makes the mastermold quick kill much easier, but you get it anyway. the last thing i'll mention is there's a glitch that causes enemies to fall through the floor and die. you can see it on my run at 58:59 with the enemy iceman is fighting. i didn't catch it on camera, but i've seen this glitch kill pyro in the haarp facility. if anyone can figure out how this glitch works, it's a MASSIVE timesave. anyway, nice run.
