Neat airplane and great video. Thanks. One thing to consider. When holding short of an active runway, don't turn on landing lights and strobes. A pilot on approach might think that you don't see them and are going to take the runway. Just before you are cleared onto the active, then light 'er up! While waiting, nav and beacon are OK. Taxi light should be off.

Great video and wonderful to see the aircraft in action over a proper flight, not just a quick circuit like most reviews. I fit perfectly into the moving up from GA pistons camp in XP11, so I think this little beauty might be a perfect step up for me.

As I commented on Twitch, I got the unusual opportunity to taxi in an Eclipse 550 down the streets of Palm Springs, CA. It was surreal, part of an event called 'Parade of Planes', which is no longer a thing, sadly. I won't spam you with a link to the video, but it was incredible.

Also, continuing from my previous comment, at high altitudes, your minimum safe (indicated) airspeed increases dramatically while your maximum speed decreases (again, indicated, not true airspeed). This is called the "coffin corner". If you let the aircraft slow to the back side of the power curve, at very high altitude, the *only* way to regain airspeed and avoid stall is to trade altitude for airspeed. By climbing in VS, especially if you were to climb a few thousand feet higher than you did, and especially with such an under-powered aircraft, you risk not even being able to accelerate while maintaining altitude when you level out.

You should never use VS mode for climbs as it provides no speed protection. Instead, use a speed mode such as IAS (in some planes labeled FLCH). In a speed climb, you set power as desired for climb (generally max continuous) and the aircraft will pitch as necessary to maintain the appropriate climb speed. Aircraft that operate in the mach regimes (generally any aircraft that flies above 29,000ft) usually automatically switch from indicated speed hold to mach speed hold when the desired climb mach number matches the indicated airspeed. The aircraft then pitches to maintain mach rather than indicated airspeed. VS should generally only be used for descents unless making a very minor altitude change.

just bought it today and took my first flight. i love it, it's gonna be my bread and butter for awhile. ; ) the stall speed is sweet. i wonder if takeoff with full flaps on short runways are feasible/productive... the visibility of the horizon above the nose of the aircraft is wonderful.

My first flight I got up to about 5000 feet and all of a sudden I had both engine on fire so extinguished fire on both engine and shut them down and had to glide back to departure runway and made it.

Jeff, I just got this aircraft the other day and I can’t get the fmc to work. I can’t get mine to program a flight plan. I am not able to put an airport ID in and it give me info. Is there something else I need? I have World Traffic 3 already installed. Everything else on the aircraft works, but the middle multipurpose screen.

You ought to do a seaplane flight, maybe with a Grumman goose if one is available. In the bahamas or something. Great videos by the way!

Question: I just bought the latest Eclipse 550, did a test flight tonight, the only thing not working in the plane and GPS, are the approaches/activation. No approaches to load at all. I have SIDS/STARS, everything but airport approaches to load up. Even the nav maps and ipad moving maps are working. Airport info. is there. I don't understand why approaches are not there. If you could shed any light, I would be in your debt sir! For my LA to KTEX flight tonight, I had to go direct to ETL, then runway 09, and kind of do it manually, since I had no ILS or RNAV approach to arm.

I have bought that wonderful plane easy to fly and easy navigation and more it is a good airplane. I love the sky view as well and it is easy to use. This plane became my favorite of all the one I got about 65 of all kind.

Hey Jeff, again you have helped me out! I was just about to go crazy with the auto throttle on climb out. When climbing if you have it on it dos not matter what you have your rate of climb set for your going straight to the stars, 6000fpm and above. I just gave up on the auto throttle completely,until now. Can’t wait to try it out! One other problem I have. There are no airports or way points or anything in the flight computer. I have just been importing flight plan from sky vector. Any suggestions? Thanks

Yes Hunter, the Cirrus Vision, but sadly nooooo VNAV!! Which is my fave feature of the Cirrus. Still, a nice looking aircraft and a possible purchase in a sale.

xplane is so much better in terms of ''scenery'' as a whole over P3D , but P3D has better birds....
