I really enjoyed this short documentary on Suzanne's work. It shows how a camera can be used to create a link between the street photographer and the subject. Gaining the consent of the strangers you photograph makes a considerable difference to the ethics of street photography, especially those photographers like myself who always question to what extent we have the right to photograph people in the street. I also try to engage with people I photograph and whilst I am nowhere near as competent as Suzanne, my resulting pictures evoke a memory to me, of the brief encounters that I have. I found this video to be both educational and inspiring. Thanks.

Great work in the vein of Mary Ellen Mark. One of the X-series best videos yet, phenomenal photos. It is sad and worrying about Jeanette though, and likewise those in similar circumstances. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on Suzanne Stein's work.

Great video, really well done and very moving. I particularly like the section on Jeanette. It is very clear you have formed a relationship with Jeanette and were not simply exploiting her. In relation to asking people if you can take their portrait, I have only ever had 2 people refuse and I have probably asked over 100 people. In my experience most people are quite flattered to have a portrait taken especially if you ask them in a sensitive and genuine way. Finally, the Fujifilm X100 is the camera that has reignited my interest in photography. What a great little camera, its put the fun back in photography for me.

Suzanne ! You do a great job to set a spotlight on the poor and forgotten people in US. There are too many poor people and too many rich people in US. In Denmark, where I live, there are free social and healthy security. The rich is not so rich and the poor are not so poor. I wish that will happen in US one day. OK I pay a high tax, but I also get a lot for the tax. Free education, free hospitals, money if you don´t have a work, or you can´t work. A woman like the one in the video could live for free at a public "old people´s home" where some nurses, doctors and so on could take care of her, so she don´t need to be in that situation.

Love your work and attitude to your craft.....the camera is sometimes a passport into a world most folk don’t even see as they pass by. I have found that as I have gotten older and just carry a small Fuji that people do not feel threatened and welcome someone to talk with and treat them as the normal folk they are....90% are happy to be photographed but I still stop and chat with the few who say “no” every time I come across them....photography is only a part of the journey and we should always remember that.....I’m doing an instagram project “facesofbelfastandbeyond”....out of the shadows which aren’t even there....people too easily missed as we pass by.....Keep up the good work, Suzanne...

I'm so happy to see that real artists can express their talent brightly without buying a $5000 summilux 35mm focal lens on a $8000 Leica M body... Indeed, contrary to what some claim, a M is sold neither with talent nor with inspiration (I had many...). Thanks Fuji for this excellent camera. And cheer Suzanne for your pictures.
