You are absolutely right-Wolverine’s actions in this sequence are beyond reproach.

Alan Cumming was great as Nightcrawler, but sadly he elected not to return as he hated the make-up process, and how long it took to get into character. The tie-in video game to the third X-Men movie explained his absence by saying he disliked the violent nature of the team's lifestyle and adventures and chose to leave the team.

In the comic it's always been eluded that Nightcrawler (the blue guy with the tail) is related to Mystique. Notice simular skin color? And also in the comics, the secret facility that Logan was taken to for the adamantium grafting was a Canadian secret lab. He then was in a Canadian superhero team called Alpha Flight.

Disagree. He looked cool and his powers were depicted excellently, but his characterization is way off. In the comics, Nightcrawler is a light-hearted, swashbuckling, jovial fellow. Cummings depicted him as morose and introspective. Not like the source material at all. Watch X-Men 97 for an accurate depiction of him.

It is too bad we would never see his Nightcrawler return. No offense to Kodi Smit McPhee, but Alan Cumming does Kurt Wagner more justice. Not just with the makeup, which I understand, not easy to wear constantly; similar to Jennifer Lawrence in the prequels. But also, I like with how Alan portrayed the misunderstood demon who puts his faith in God when others have forsaken and shunned him. By accepting and forgiving their flaws, he, too, can accept and forgive any flaws he sees in himself.

Well I heard a line from Nightcrawler who at the time said he couldn't use his powers because Jean blocked them. Presumably that's why none of them could do anything at that point.

​@@rigrmortis3393 weeell, we saw Storm/Ororo easily conjure up multiple tornados and control them while flying a plane, and using them to defend against missiles. If she has that much fine control over storms, lightning, rain, etc, a minor flood like that dam breaking should have been easy for her. In the comics she WOULD have done it while casually chilling out on a sofa. Unfortunately for plot reasons they massively tuned her down. She is one of three omega level mental power characters in the cartoon that have shown up in the movies. I won't spoiler who the others are. Logan's healing factor is at an omega level as well, but that's about it for him as it is purely physical and passive, so he doesn't classify as a true omega level.

Wolverine's first appearance was not even as a mutant at all, just a Canadian super agent / super hero send to keep a rampaging Hulk in check.

Len Wein, the writer who created him, had heard that X-Men was going to be getting rebooted soon, with an international cast, so he made Wolverine a mutant so he could join if they liked the character. Often why he's classed as an "Anti-Villain", and often ends up on the Heroes side. He and Charles are based on Martin Luther King Junior and Malcolm X, both with similar goals, but different methods.

He doesn't think things through though. Mutants are being born from "normal" humans so if he wipes out all the normies, the number of new and unique mutants coming into existence will stop or at least slow down.

I think Erik Lehnsherr is that character who skirts on an anti-hero (a character of a story who lacks traditional characteristics that are associated with a conventional hero. While typically guided by the best of intentions, the anti-hero is a classically flawed character with a history of bad decisions and a questionable moral code) and an anti-villain (a villain whose goals or ends are generally benevolent, but their means of getting there are evil. They don't care about what they have to do to enact their master plan). Humanity failed him at a very young age (Holocaust), and then tried using his abilities for evil purposes, and at the end, we are somehow surprised that he turns on those people, and insists on using proven tactics in order to secure and protect mutants. We can understand how Erik ends up becoming so contemptuous of humanity, and is willing to use some very foul tactics to make them pay. For Erik, humanity will inevitably try to destroy all of the mutants, be it out of fear or envy, or whatever other motivating factor involved, and he cares more about the mutants; HIS people.

The best villains are the ones you can sympathize with. The ones who aren't entirely wrong, and you can understand how they got there. His methods may be extreme, but he's not wrong, especially with the extreme treatment he received when he was young. Humans definitely aren't good.

And I don't get it why they are constantly mispronouncing his name. It's "Lehns-Herr" (German for liege/feudal lord), not "Lehn-Sherr".

If the new / reactivated old (intron) gene is carefully preserved, or survives because it's beneficial to the descendant young, then this may, not will, result in a sub-species or even eventually a separate 'new' species. It's how there are animals in every niche in nature. How there are finches with all shapes of beaks, to eat all sizes of seed and nut, for example. If, for example, Barry Allen, the Flash, were a mutant, and all his kids were also speed-force using mutants, then he could be regarded as a sub-species of humans. If all of them had kids with 'normal' folks, and some inherited the speed and not others, then they would all be humans, not a sub-species, just a bloodline, like a line of fast racehorses.

Yes this was a big tonal shift from the first one. Thinking about it compared to most superhero films in general it is one of the most full on in respect to how much violence is shown. Even compared to more recent superhero films. I'm surprised that many scenes in this weren't censored.

@@CoffeeConnected they kind of mostly were censored. Other than red lines in wolverine fights and maybe a few scenes with blood (glass chamber), it was mostly just implied deaths. Not that it was badly done, or even that blood and gore would have made the movie better. It was definitely censored from what it could have been though.

One other power Wolverine has that they don’t make super clear in the movies. He can go into a Berzerker Rage and lose it.

What you gotta do to get PG-13. R movies historically just means less population can pay to watch your production in theaters. Dead Pòol was not just a freak successful movie. It was a wildly successful R movie. ​@@DomSithe

That story was actually retconned fairly recently, now Nightcrawler is the son of Mystique and the mutant Destiny.

Personally I hope they do Gambit well in MCU X-Men... but yeah it was nice seeing Nightcrawler get the spotlight in this one

In regards to Madame Web, I knew just from the trailer that it was an underwhelming story. There are a lot of Spider-Man characters that are intriguing, but they need Spider-Man to make things more interesting. With any and all MCU X-Men movies, they really need to do the team justice. One thing that I think can help, and this is just my opinion, is avoiding anything regarding the Phoenix until the characters are more established in the MCU. That whole saga is a nightmare to try and get right in live action. The animated series did a good job because they were allowed to do it over several episodes. Trying to cram it into a roughly two hour movie just causes a lot of context to go missing.

I thought Nightcrawler's story arc was one of the most engaging character stories of this film.

I really enjoyed the two episodes from the X-Men animated series from the 1990's that Nightcrawler appeared in. I'm really glad that he's been shown a bit more in the X-Men '97 series and hope that he becomes a mainstay on the team from now on.

Doesn't surprise me they gave up on the height thing. Hugh Jackman was the focus, and so good in the part they wanted him to look as heroic as possible. Which meant axing some of the quirks of the character.

DOFP is still my favorite of the entire series, and is an amazing lead-in to the chronological flashback of FC (exploring the new timeline instead would have been great too, but just impossible to pull off.)

He got one thing wrong, he was Wayyyyyyy to tall. Imagine Superman being short or Robin being taller than Batman. Height is a pretty defining trait for any character, and Jackman was so tall as Wolvie is like five foot five inches. Also he never showed us Wolverine unfortunately, he always showed us Logan, the civilian identity. Like, Superman+ Wolverine are the superhero persona, meaning they both wear underwear on the outside, bright colors, spandex and either a cape or mask for over 35 years, wheras Clark Kent + Logan is the civilian identity and they can walk down the street w/no problem. So if we saw Christopher Reeve flying around as Clark Kent and using his strength as Clark Kent, that would be the equivalent of how Jackman was always the civilian identity of Logan doing all the action, never getting to see Wolverine, which is the name of his SUPERHERO ego. But despite those two things, no wolvie and too tall, he is certainly a fantastic representation of the character. He LOOKED just like Logan and acted just like Logan, he was really amazing and still is. Of course they made him to look + act like Clint Eastwoods movie characters because that's who the Logan character in the comics was actually based on. Jackman was basically doing Eastwood since Logan in the comics was always portrayed to be Eastwood....so I wonder why they didn't cast Clint Eastwood for Old Man Logan??

I agree as well. I feel like if they did some rewrites to X-men: The Last Stand, including Gambit and cutting out the Phoenix Saga, Rogue could've been done much more justice than what they gave us. Her and Gambit meeting and forming a friendship while Rogue is on a break from Iceman, who's getting closer with Kitty Pryde would've opened the door for a future romance and build her confidence from having someone who chooses to be with her despite the risks to his life, because as Gambit in X-men '97 said, *some things are deeper than skin.* Plus, can you imagine if Rogue and Gambit had been in the lineup alongside Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, and Beast?

Thats true but realisticly among a group of mutants with the powers they have going up against soldiers with guns what could she really have done. Her mutation isent exactly suitable for anything that isent very very close combat. And even then her powers isent exactly instant.

Yes, one of the first X-Men stories I ever read. Marvel was putting out some kick-ass graphic novels in the early '80s. When DC made the format famous with Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen, they were following in the footsteps of Marvel who had started the adult-geared graphic novel years earlier.

Oh yeah, of the original 3, this one is considered the best received by audiences.
