Moonsorrow: "In the realm of desolation, where shadows reign,
Xasthur emerges with this album To Violate the Oblivious.
With mournful melodies, it paints despair,
Empowering souls in anguish, with utmost care.
In the abyss of sorrow, where hope seems lost,
Xasthur's music, a bridge to exhaust.
Empowering the broken, with every haunting chord,
Healing wounds unseen, with whispers untoward.
A maestro of melancholy, in the void of the soul,
Xasthur's symphony, a dirge that consoles.
Elevated to greatness, by its bleak embrace,
Xasthur, a titan of darkness, in its grace.
In the symphony of sorrow, its resonance thrives,
Xasthur's essence, a refuge for broken lives.
In the depths of despair, its solace endures,
Xasthur, an icon of desolation, forever impures."

And yet amid that tense, godless calm the high bare boughs of all the trees in the yard were moving. They were twitching morbidly and spasmodically, clawing in convulsive and epileptic madness at the moonlit clouds; scratching impotently in the noxious air as if jerked by some alien and bodiless line of linkage with subterrene horrors writhing and struggling below the black roots.

Does anybody else get an ASMR vibe from this kind of black metal? I can literally fall asleep to this
@SF-zm2py
@SF-zm2py 5 жыл бұрын
I can't detect any ASMR here. One certainly could produce more in that direction, but ASMR tends to use spatially-oriented stuff, higher-quality recording, and background silence, which really leads to ASMR being very punctuating. That sort of production is generally a no-go on atmospheric works, though it could definitely spice up any solos/complex melodies/etc. and I'd love to hear it done for real. As for falling asleep to it, I think that shows much more strongly that you're comfortable with it and sort-of able to tune it out than it shows certain production techniques being used. I have trouble falling asleep, so maybe I should try listening to this at night myself!

Isak Sorgen I can agree with Xasthur being one of the best atmospheric black metal bands in history, but as far as the music getting stale right around the end I'm not so sure what to say. Most of the people that know Scott personally would say that his music was unique, but since I've never seen him in person this is merely heresay.
