Thank u sooo much. My 360's disk tray would only come out about 4cm then would not move any further. I had tried everything - having watched loads of other video's for 'stuck disk tray fix'. But nothing worked until I came across your video, the 1st I had seen that said remove the disk tray. I did this with relative ease & with absolutely no damage to the tray at all (I noticed a comment below saying that there was no way to remove the tray without damaging it. Well I removed mine no problem, with no damage). Slid it back in, gears realigned & voila!! Its now working great, no problems at all. So thx again, your video was a great help to me :)

I just cleaned mine, but had to remove all the gears (sprockets) and clean each and every tooth as it was filled with dust and was making gear stick, after getting them cleaned with electric toothbrush I put it back together and worked great, thanks for video!

Hi, Thank you for the video, in my case it was similar to the case demonstrated - tray stuck and only moves about 3-4cm before closing again. I used the emergency release as I had a DVD stuck in the tray, as they were doing maintenance on the power in my region. TO my horror when I plugged the XBOX in, the tray was stuck like in the video. You method worked, I removed the tray checked moving components and slided the tray back until the tray "Locked" in the back. After I reassembled the XBOX all was working well! Thanks again!

omg so relieved to have finally found this video after finding so many that just fixed the rubber band

Also, I did this to fix the gears which had misaligned when the tray door was pried out. Paper clip fix wouldn't help, need to remove the tray as in the videos and rewind the gears. Note that if you try to move the gears the opposite way by hand the teeth won't catch but that's ok because the tray will slide in and push the gear into place

My xbox 360 slim is 7 years old works perfectly and in this year 2017 my xbox occurred the same problem so thanks for giving solution my xbox is working now.

When you slide it in correctly it does lock in place until you hook it up and have power going to it. So if it's acting the same way in the video you've probably fixed it, but again, it's hard to tell not being there. Let me know.

A Very Big Huge Thank you, since there is no easy way to replace the complete drive, this saved a lot of Money and Stress for us! :-) :-) :-)

It may help to show the pin that rides in the channel on the bottom of the drive tray and explain how it, by riding in that channel, until it hits the end, is how the drive read head knows to come up and lock into place. Not criticizing your video, one on the best, just trying to help it become a better video.

Are we talking "power off" trying to move it and it wont open? Or are you saying that you hooked it all back up together and plugged in the power supply and then it wont open when you push the button?

It still sounds like misaligned gears to me, but it's nearly impossible to tell without being able to see it. Also check and make sure there isn't any debris.

Alright, I think I now figured out what was the problem. A part of the gears was melted off, and that's why it wouldn't pull the tray. Gonna buy some replacement parts now, crossing fingers!

Worked for about 1 minute then got stuck again. Tryed to do the trick again and it didnt work so the very front clip broke off when i tryed to get it off again. All i can say is good thing the Xbox One comes out next month

Ya you don't have to bend anything, just take that sticky seal off around the tau abd it pulls apart

After you get the xbox open, disconnect the disc drive and you will see a hole with a yellow circle sticker on it. Just find something thin enough like a straightened out paper clip. Push it into the hole and you will feel the mechanism sliding along. Turn your xbox back on and voila, problem solved. (Worked for me anyway)

I got the really old arcade version so the drive is stuck. I need to open the drive but its not the drives ribbon, its some motor part. The top lid has a spinning disc and its used to hold the disc in place. Its not the ribbons fault. You dont have to clean it. You need Fix that top part of the disc. When it spins, it holds the disc so it doesnt fly out. Thats what is the problem in my drive its very loose so the disc goes all over and the drive cant be ejected because of that TOP PART. Its to tight and the lid of the drive fails to fit propely. Over time the disc at the top goes loose and fails to get in touch with the disc drives ring.

Hey dude. I managed to unstuck mine, but now it won't stick back in. Whenever i press the button it goes back, i hear the gears spinning, then it opens back up. The power button is normal, it stopps flashing once it opens.

So it is completely out of the xbox, it pushed in fine. I just can't pull it out without moving the laser and spinning thing. It seems like that was what happened to yours

NO WAY did you pull the tray off without damage. They aren't just clips - they're also guides. They would crack easily if you pried the sides open.

It worked! Thanks XD only issue is I forgot the five screws. After that hell I'll just leave it alone. I lost so many fingernails pulling that case apart. >_>

I have an original Xbox 360 I’m trying to put the tray back into the disc drive, is the way you did that with the Slim the same as the original?

the video helped, but you did not elaborate on how to set the gears, you only said they were misaligned.

So, I just did this to try and figure out why a friends' kids' Xbox drive wouldn't open (completely jammed, even the mechanical eject wouldn't push in). Got the top metal cover open, was flipping it over to uncatch the bottom cover...and a 4gb microSD card fell out. I...I don't even know :\ Apparently that was the problem though, as the mechanical eject now works, and I might as well perfectly-align the gears while I have it open, I guess...thanks for the video.

I have been struggling for over a day now. I have moved the gears around a lot but nothing wants to work. There is a point where the gears won't turn any more and the tray gets stuck. Can someone please help me to keep the gears moving or is there something I am missing

It is like yours where when the laser is up it doesn't move but when down moves great. Does that mean it is okay?

My disk is now stuck outside and i cant get it to slide back in. When i slide it in the gears stop about only a fifth of the way pushed inside because the teeth gears that run straight, over the circular gears, hit the walls that are like this | | on either side and there physically no more room for the gears to turn. Wtf? My problem has just REVERSED. U should explain step by step more carefully? Thanks for video. Was helpful until the end

Could you replace the slim e with a slim disk tray if it is damaged do they hold the same size and fit

ok everybody listen i havent had this problem before but i know how to fix it first if your xbox isnt taken apart its all togerther you have to look at the side of your xbox and youll see a little hole with orange tape around it get a paper clip bend it to the shape of a slightly curved finger stick it in the hole and then the disc tray pops open and if it gets stuck again use the same method
